Hi guys! Just read this whole thread and congrats to those people that are now successfully working for Qatar! I have a question. I have thought about applying for Qatar but confused as it does say "must be willing to relocate to Doha". So does that mean you would only be in Doha for the training or pretty much until the contract ends? I don't have a problem with leaving my country (UK), but I have a pet which I can't leave behind for too long. I know it's silly. So if relocating to Doha is perm then I won't apply for it.

The base is Doha. You live in Doha. The training is in Doha. Everything is in Doha lol
Btw, you sleep abroad when flying, but just for 1 or 2 nights and return to Doha again. And I think, somebody wrote the same question about pets and the answer was pets are not allowed in your accommodation.

All Middle Eastern Airlines will require you to relocate as their hub is the international airport of the flag carrier; so in Qatar's case this is Doha, Emirates is Dubai, Gulf is Bahrain and Etihad is Abu Dhabi. All crew live in those cities, you will be employed as an expatriate worker (I.e on a valid Qatar working visa) and will be offered a three year contract to live and work there.

There's also no guarantee you will get regular flights to the UK; so if relocating and leaving your pet behind are no-gos, then the life of crew is not for you!

Alternatively, you could try UK based low-costs with regional bases (EZY, Flybe, Monarch, Jet2 etc), as BA and Virgin Atlantic won't be hiring for a long time yet.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Medicals

hello everybody!
i have passed the final interview and i have to do the medical checks now.
As i am currently working for another airline and today and tomorrow is week end i wont be able to do anything, plus i dont know what to chose if short or long term.
Is there a really big different about the costs? And is it true that if i do the long one and i pass i dont have to do any visit in Doha??
My problem is that i live in a foreign country and i work almost every day so i wont have. Is it ok if i ask my coordinator a week more?
please reply
thanks a lot
sara

Hi sara fra

When i received my e mail i was given 2 days to complete my medical!
I infomed my coordinator that it wouldnt be possible because it was coming up to the weekend and she was fine about it. All in all i think its a long process and they understand that, so dont worry!! I received my e mail about 2 weeks ago now and im still going through the medical process. I have just kept my coordinator informed of the progress.

Good luck xx

Hey valensi, thank you for your reply. Yeah I figured I would have to relocate and 3 years is a long time. My friend was lucky enough to get a interview in hongkong for CX and now she is based in the UK and working from there I guess the best option for me is to work with a UK based airline, I have been keeping my eyes open on recruitments. I got accepted at easyJet but it is only seasonal so yeah... hope there will be more recruitments over the summer!

Short/Long term medical

Hi Quantity

I don't know the exact details of the long term medical but the form you were sent by QA is most likely the short term which means you will have to do a chest x-ray and blood tests, eg blood group, serology, HIV tests etc. It's pretty basic but it will mean that there will be more tests done in Doha. I'm not sure what these involve though, sorry. If they give you the option of doing the long term medical in your own country I'm sure they would give you a (long) list of things to do, so obviously it would be more expensive. It's my understanding that if you do the long term then there are no more tests in Doha. I was told that if I do the long term medical then you would be waiting much longer to relocate due to the nature of the medical and what's involved. So maybe this would suit somebody who is in college etc and can't fly within the month or two months.

I hope this helps, sorry I don't have more info! Good luck!

Hi guys, i have a question for those who have attended a qatar airways interview. So, I know that you have to bring with you a full lenght photo and a passport one too, but the background can't be white, so which are the colours aloud? Do you think it's fine pictures with green background?

Thnk you,

Try to do it with the blue background, they prefer it.
Although, be careful about the photos, because they might send you to re do them and re do and re do ... Some recruters don't really deserve the position they have. It is a pitty they decide on other people's career. There is a girl [name & nationality removed - mods] who is fat and really bichy. Don't get me wrong, I have passed the final interview, but still I can not believe what she was doing to the people.
At some point she told me that I have to re do my photos (after re doing it already once) because the floor is not suposed to be seen in the picture. I mean, what did she expect me to do, to start flying in order to make the photos???? And it is not so bad what she was saying as much as the way she was saying it. I hope you understand what I mean. I already have heard that people in Qatar have some certain "attitude", but you can't imagine how much!
In any case, poor people that she is going to recruit.
And good luck with photos!

Recruiter

How do you think you are to write about people like that?
You just show us how poor you are. A was recr. when I attended OD (Zagreb) and she was brilliant. Tell us your name and stay with your words here. I just can't listen people like you because you are ----- !

P.S.

Just one detail...
I just checked some of your post here and I can see (all of us can see the same) that you write about Emirates Etihad Qatar... And just some negative because you were rejected there... And that is the reason of post like this one. If there is no company where you was selected - I think there is some problem with you.

My posts are not negative at all. AI just wrote what I have experienced. I have passed the final interview with Qatar, and I am doing my medicals at the moment. The truth is that this A was really rude, and you cannot change this fact what ever you write.
Although, I have noticed that she was too friendly with the boys, so I do understand your attitude.
Forum is about exchanging the opinions and experiences, what's your problem then?

attitude

Finally, a good discussion!

Marie2009,

I totally understand how you felt. I`m sure that the recruiter was seemed to be rude to you. But consider something:
- maybe she was tired or had a terrible headache,
- maybe she broke up with her boy-friend 5 minutes before on the phone,
- maybe she was annoyed because you were the 6th person who did the photos wrong,
- and Eastern-Europeans generally considered harsh (accent, tone of voice), most likely you did`t like her style. (I`m from Eastern-Europe, so I know what I`m talking about.)

Anyways, I believe that she was rude to you as it happens of course. It shouldn`t be a big deal and you shouldn`t be very sensitive. Forget about things like that as you will have loads of incidents and conflicts on board, trust me.

Girls with attitude?! Big time! Everyone has an attitude and everyone is different. Let`s be positive and hope that you will have a good flatmate or flatmates.

By the way, I find it very bad that most of the companies put the crew in 3-bedroom-apartments nowadays. Three boys together: maybe. Three girls: way too many! Especially if you need to share the bathroom!

If you don`t feel comfortable with your flatmate, don`t think twice: look for a new apartment and move as soon as possible.

I don`t live in Doha but I met one of the new-joiners (EK) couple of weeks ago in Dubai. Well, she was waiting for her taxi and went to the airport. She resigned after 2 days. She didn`t even make it through induction. And what was the reason: everything is so scary (I name one: her driver at the airport the night she was picked up), her accomodation is horrible (there is no internet), horrible location, lots of construction around, strange flatmates (she met only 1 out of the 2 for 10 minutes) and it`s very hot. Then she was gone.

So, I didn`t find your post negative at all. I find some of the people generally too positive, let`s say naive. I`m sure that some of them has absolutely no idea what they can expect in the Middle-East. (Not specified for Qatar crew.) I find it healthy and normal that you have concerns. It`s also totally normal that you don`t like every single person you meet. Believe me, you will hate 1-2 bithes in your batch but it doesn`t mean that your training will be horrible. I hope you`ll have a great time and you`ll make some friends!

Very bad idea to name any of your colleagues here. You should avoid this all times. It`s a small world!

Good luck with the medicals!

Dumor,

I am sorry to hear that you had bad experience with this girl, as well. And I am sorry for the company that send the girl with that kind of behavior to recruit the new girls. Are you doing your medicals at the moment?

Mari, thank you so much for your words. You are one of very few people on this forum who REALLY knows and understands what is going on. I saw it earlier, I am seeing it now, girl, you are so helpful to people.
You are totally right, we need to learn to face with this type of situations and not to get it to personally.
But, the fact that this was nasty to ALL girls during the OD was so weird, because usually the girls that are sent by the company are so so so so pleasent and kind. That is how was exactly the second girl from Qatar who did OD.

Wish you everything best in your career!
