International Aircraft Repossession

Hi,

What are the rates and risk for pilots in case of aircraft repossession when the latter is stranded in non western areas?

Ferry rates are one thing but if there is a risk for a pilot, how high can it go? It' no war zone, but taking a aircraft from within Europe or North America, cannot be compare to flying an aircraf from Africa back to its owner in the US.

Depending where in Africa it can be very risky. Normally owners of aircraft in Africa are "friends of the President". If it is South Africa or East Africa where there are robust aviation authorities it is OK. Best ask for the return of the plane and if it does not arrive claim on your Insurance (You did insure for loss of asset I hope)

Insurance is all done as well as proper paperwork. But getting it outta there is the main issue, if the pilot knows his way around and knows how to access the aircraft that should be of course worth a premium.

Market rates average around US$700 per day but I can imagine that's for regular ferry hassle free flights

paperwork is all done. However, getting it out of there will require a pilot who knows his way around and ramp people as well.

Per crew member, yes.
Double for the areas you describe.

Be very careful even in Europe we had one which was in Altrenheim on lease.

The Lease was not being paid and me and another pilot tried to snatch it for the owner.

That failed (just) meaning we had to make our way back empty handed. It took the owner months through the courts to get possession.

The other was handled by a pilot friend /simular thing! aircraft in Dubai working for a Dubai operator. Payments not made and the operator played legal games. The owner got my friend to fly it out which he did but then could not get the aircraft deregistered.

(Since found there was a shady way to de register) in this case the aircraft had to be returned to Dubai by another pilot as my friend would have been arrested and the aircraft sat in the legal system for nearly 2 years. He now cannot return there for any reason.

So beware.

My advice get specialists who know all the tricks to deal with it for you even if it costs.
