Banner Towing - Making the banner?

Just curious, how do they make those extra large colour graphic banners to tow behind the plane? (Not the plain letter ones) Do they use a special printer or machine?

The system I have used (there may be others) has each letter or symbol made up individually on supporting strings, like a very large mesh. These are linked together by looping the strings of each character and kept upright by fibreglass rods similar to those used in tents.

Looks like this.

Can't be too different.

Try this for a start, pulled it off Googleee:

Also think there is a company that operates from Bembridge where I saw a ground pick-up system.

Hope it helps!
