Lightweight biz jets
Just read a report in the UK sunday times about the planned development of small cheap business jet, they claim there is a potential market for thousands of them.
Just a couple of points
Where are all the ATPL pilots going to come from to fly the things and where are the ATC slots to accomodate the movements ?

Planned development? Several types have flown already, and some are even being/have been delivered to customers.
Take a look at the thread called 'Eclipse Update' for instance.

And since most of them will use smaller airports, both for convenience near to the journey start/end points and to avoid exorbitant landing fees, there shouldn't be a slot problem as such.

OK thats understood but what about airways slots ? Presumably these aircraft fly at a reasonable speed and altitude ? therefore I would expect they require airways slots, are these available ? say for instance 100+ extra movements into Farnborough per day ? All a bit vague I know but I cant imagine hoards of self fly 500 mph biz jets having a free for all in the southeast of England.

Inevitably there'll be the cowboys, (more money than sense) unable to get a slot for airways, who'll simply blast about in class G airspace relying on TCAS and GPS to keep them out of trouble. Oh and already overloaded LARS controllers.
Farnborough is strictly PPR, so the operators would have a say in who they accept; aircraft are often turned away if they haven't booked in advance, especially at weekends. In any case, these cowboys would expect to use Heathrow anyway.

A bunch of operators are planning to turn the skies dark with these babies. Just imagine the pay drivers will get. In-flight catering by Dunkin Donuts. Hope the PAX tip!
