There is a reason Mate:

It is Curtiss XP-71

Curtiss XP-71 was a 1940 proposal of a heavy escort fighter aircraft for USAAF. Two prototypes were ordered. The development were equipped with Wasp Mayor turbocharged radial engines and was featuring pusher configuration with 8 contra rotating propellers.

The final design of the XP-71 was bigger than the B-25 Mitchell medium bomber so this complex aircraft was considered to be need a lot of resources to built.

A mock up was built to gain data for the prototypes but later, the requirement of more advanced fighters such as jets led to the cancellation of the XP-71 project and the prototype was never built in 1942.
Over to you Mate

Brian, I found the book you pictured when looking for your last challenge from it, a couple of challenges back (and noticed that you have had at least one other from it earlier). Great book!

Well, I admit being a bit unruly, but the silhouette has not been made of a Bucker…..

But this should go to RR

Wanatabé Ki.86 Cypress
Kyushu K9W1 Type 2 Momiji
Kokusai Ki.86 Type 4

The silhouette basis was captioned as Watanabe.

Over to RR

Boeing Model 221A Monomail.
I'd say it is that, as well.
In fact, the cockpit of that aircraft is the current one "on trail" in the "What Cockpit" thread..

cheers,
Jake.
