Silhouette challenge
Well done SincoTC. The Queen Aeroboat
Over to you!
Commiserations to Ridge Runner for doing alot of the leg (or mouse) work.
Loening may well have invented the first flying boat that actually flew. While working at the Queen Aeroplane Company in the absence of his boss, Loening began the quick (and unofficial) construction of a powered flying boat. It was an improved version of the 1909 Aero Club glider, with a full-length hull supporting the tail and wings, as well as small floats under the wing tips to provide stability on the water. Several marginal flights were made in June 1912, a month before Glenn Curtiss flew his flying boat.

Thanks RR and sorry !!
I had looked at Loening earlier, but this one escaped me, probably because Aerofiles somehow deemed fit to code it as mid-wing
It will have to be Open House as I'm off very soon (not soon enough though eh Martin )
Good Challenge Mechta, it certainly had me ferreting around too, during my breaks today!!

Open House it is chaps!
Just for clarification, the answers to the clues:
Just for clarification, the answers to the clues:
- The Queen Aeroplane Company had the licence to build Bleriots in the USA, and it was a pair of Bleriot wings that Loening used.
- After working for the Queen company, Loening set up his own company. When this was sold to Curtiss-Wright, several of his employees, including Leroy Grumman, set up the Grumman company, which was often known as the 'Grumman Ironworks' on account of the ruggedness of their products.
- Queen, the rock band, have just changed labels from EMI to Universal.

Sorry boys. I thought more of you would be on line. I'm travelling in the morning and so I guess it will go under the new 12-hour rule..... unless someone cares to look very soon, as I need to get to bed! RR

Morning Graeme
Your instincts on the flying boat were correct albeit that it wasn't a Shumaker photo. But it was in Aerofiles. Unforunately I stopped looking when it was implied you were leading me down the garden path - I should have known better!!

At 2200, so in another in just under 1 1/2 hrs time!
RR's challenge certainly looks American - sort of reminds me of a Beech Bonanza with a twin tail ,and fixed undercarriage by the look of it.

you're searching using a descriptioncombination of words in the search section of Aerofiles.
I see. Thanks. So one really needs to know..exactly..how Aerofiles define aircraft shapes and the odd bumps and pieces? For example, Martin's machine...are they "end-plates", "twin-fins", "H-tail"..etc...?

Right.
OK then, I will continue to operate according to Plan B. Namely, be patient, bide my time and wait for you and/or Sinco, or someone else to come up with the goods and hopefully the next challenge bypasses Aerofiles...
