Thats a tall undercarriage - was it designed to carry something beneath the fuselage?

Blimey - you'v got me on that one mate!

Considering it's role, it could well be true. I have to go into class for 50 minutes, I'll check in my coffee break. I'll leave the green light on.

American, and could carry a 2000 lb bomb.

It did fly and it's on the web.

I'm intrigued. The only pictures I have found of the TDR-1 drone only have a passing resemblance to the silhouette. The tail and undercarriage are different, and most importantly, the silhouette seems to be a high wing aircraft. Below is a photo of the TDR-1:

The challenge looks like the Naval Aircraft Factory TDN-1 - see below, and which picture looks to me like the original source of the silhouette.

What do you think?

Skytrain,

I would agree from your pictures that my id was not the correct one. The picture I saw was much smaller and without the landing gear.

Both were designed to carry a 2,000 lb bomb.

While we wait for LM to confirm or not, RegDep, is your an American aircraft? I'm interested by the engine - I'm guessing those are cylinders protuding around the cowl, but if so one of them looks out of alignment!

Yes, it is American, but maybe not deep in his soul. The out-of-alignment protrusion is "something else". The engine is a Wright.

EDIT: I think you did not mean that "protrusion". But the engine is a Wright J-5.

There's a bit of Curtiss Robin about it, is it any relation?

Mechta I don't see any other connection than the general look and the time of construction.
