Heath-Robinsonish maybe geographically. Apparently took off using trails.
Edit: While I was considering the response on the landing without revealing the whole thing TC hit the nail where it should be hit
. The answer would have been: The original idea was that it should not land on land.
This is what aerofiles describe it:
All yours TC!

This is what aerofiles describe it:
as a factory test-bed for the Kettering motor to be used on pilotless aerial torpedos, of which c.20 went to USN for field tests at Pensacola. Plans for additional modification as a single-place Army scout as T-4 were canceled at the Armistice, and a decision was made to convert this lightweight for the civil market, but the project was never implemented. Motor design by Kettering and Harold E Morehouse was basis for the post-war Chevrolet 4 auto engine.

Nice looking toupée she has
Edit: Coffee time and no nibbles yet!
From the puny little engine and the aspect ratio of the wings, you would be correct in assuming it was a motor-glider.
I would think that the "cocpit canopy" was not for the claustrophobic, as it was more like a the helmet from a suit of armour, with shoulder flaps forming a hatch to climb through!!
It is on a fairly well known site the web, but not Wikipedia!!

You called! ![Smilie](https://www.pprune.org/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Been busy this afternoon so not had a chance to look...I'm tempted to say its a German design (but there again 50% of the worlds motor gliders are anyway). I have a feeling I have seen it somewhere...??
