Ah....enter the Stig.
Done that one mate - it had a radial. Two of us have been running around since breakfast with this one.
A reminder you have one challenge left - I need more mate.

Afternoon Sinco
Not the WM-123...and not from Hungary.
Looks like some guidance may be needed....head east.
Could it be the planned Hungarian Weiss Manfred WM-123 Ezustnyil II

Surely you don't mean Russia!
To assist your search, this aircraft never flew. The prototype was under construction when the project was cancelled.

In Russia that could be one of thousands!
It's radial engined predecessor did fly and there are certain similarities between the 2 aircraft, particularly the wings and the tail. The challenge aircraft had a V12 licence built Hispano-Suiza engine...its predecessor a licence built Wright Cyclone.

The only Polikarpov I could find that looks anything like the challenge aircraft is the ITP M-2 prototype but it's wrong on various points.
So probably not a Polikarpov.

Not a Beriev Martin.
Incidentally the reason for the project being cancelled was reportedly due to the government focusing its efforts on the Polikarpov I-16, due to its claimed better performance than the challenge aircraft.

Straight in there Graeme....morning mate....yes its the Grigorovich IP-2, which was to be the successor to the radial engined IP-1. Well done
.
No picture of it to post other than that of a mock-up, so I'll hand it over to you.

Good evening Graeme.
Since I can't see the upper surface, did it have more than one crew?
There is also what appears to be something below the rear fuselage which is bigger than a tailwheel.
I am thinking of a certain Yank job.
