So its not a transport, and its not a bomber
I'm with Mechta above, possibly reconnaissance?. Is it in any way connected with the USAF long-range requirement that resulted in the Bell X-16?

(Looks a little like the Boeing X-48B).

Morning all...

On the right track with its purpose...the design was for an ASW/Long Range Patrol aircraft for the USN.

No connection with the Bell X-16 or Boeing X-48B that I am aware of.

Time for a morning cuppa now!

As its rather quiet a little more info for you.

The aircraft design itself is from a well known manufacturer. The rather large engines were to be "composite turbofans" as opposed to hi by-pass. I am not an engine expert but apparently the intention was that the engine would be dual turbofan and turboprop, the former to be used to get the aircraft to its patrol position, and then run on turboprop power for the patrol itself. A bit like a propfan I guess?

Seasons Greetings to all! I believe it's the Lockheed BWB project CL-1170-6-2 but can't find too much info at present.

If correct "Open House" please as I'll be off-line soon.

You've got it SincoTC, it is indeed the proposed Lockheed CL-1170-6-2.

Here's an artists impression:

With a wing span well over 200 ft it would have been an impressive sight!

SincoTC has declared Open House.

Greetings skytrain.

"Cessna 337 (or O-2)" "Cessna/Reims FTB337G Milirole?"

Sorry Mate, but it is, rather obviously, a COIN aeroplane. My kind of kit - it shoots unwanted buggers......

A few clues

OK Noyade, Maybe it was a bit tough. I thought the guys were just sleeping off the Christmas pudding! Maybe these will help:
  1. What do the V-2, the Mallard, a sheet of paper and this design have in common?
  2. The propulsion unit (which was not well drawn in the original three view) might be described as 'a pig of an engine', if translated from the vernacular of its country of origin.
  3. In later years, the designer was asked to do the test flight of a famous aircraft, despite being employed by the manufacturer's competitior.

Noyade, the type and era were correct in your earlier statement, but country of origin was not.

Lightning Mate, that's one out of the three.

I should add that the engine manufacturer is known for its V shaped engines. I assume the flat engine shown is an error.
