Interesting one and looks familiar from somewhere...although I am far from certain, is it the floatplane version of the MAI-407?

I'm sure you've got it WK...I had ruled out the Avia Accord 201 because all the photo's I have seen show it as a double tail and with only an amphibious (as opposed to floatplane) option. But looking on one of the websites I see the prototype Avia Accord had a single tail and floats!

a knack of getting around the web!
Ohhh..not me mate. Its just an aircraft that has always reminded me of the P-40 and thereby making it 'memorable.'

New one...

From the imperial measurements I'm guessing US/UK/Australian/NZ?

Clues

Could it be a version of the Gyrodyne Military Convertiplane?
Sorry, but no. This autogyro was powered by a 300 hp Jacobs engine and had a factory designation and a military designation as it was built under an Air Force contract for an observation aircraft. According to the internet it flew in 1943.

From the imperial measurements I'm guessing US/UK/Australian/NZ?
North American. The company responsible was famous for car tyres and had earlier acquired Pitcairn-Larsen.

Quite a challenge in every sense Noyade. Obviously the manufacturer was Firestone G & A. however, besides the R-9 (which was a fairly conventional shape) the only other possible that had a civil and military designation that I can find reference to is the R-15. I have not seen any illustrations for this machine, but could this be the mystery craft?

G'day S'land. Yeah, I see what you mean. I had a closer look at my sources and the internet and I'm becoming confused. My apologies to you, and anyone else who drew a blank.

Obviously the manufacturer was Firestone G & A
Well, that's how I have it listed, but it seems that it all depends on where you look? Aerofiles has it listed under Pitcairn, Lambermont under Firestone G&A, Bower as AGA (Autogyros, Gliders and Airplanes) and closer inspection of the article where I found the line drawing as the G&A Aircraft company. Firestone acquired G&A around this period. I went with Lambermont.

Civil designation was the PA-44 and military as the XO-61.

You must have got very close s'land, so please take control! I'll scamper off now...

And a 'nice' colourised version I found on the net...

Thanks for your generosity Noyade, I only got the possible manufacturer - not the model. I must confess that I have also found a few possible challenges that have no clear provenance and therefore, sympathise with you on this one.

LM, sorry for the delay, but I had to finish a project before I could log onto the site. Usually my mornings are taken up with work.

Here is the next one.
