Then should I find this machine in Elke Weal's 'Combat Aircraft of WWII?' I haven't yet.
You might, however I am not familiar with this reference book.
Gotta go mate, 'Midsomer Murders' has just started on the telly!
I often wonder that there are still people living there as every week at least three are "bumped off". Good Hunting.

It looks like a KB-11 "Kvazimodo" a bulgarian contraption of 1940
carson

By having a closer look at your diagram I'm sure it is the KB11/A "Fazan" a follower of the unfliable Kvazimodo and this is my final response.

carson1934 has it . It is indeed the KB-11A Fazan

In 1938 the Bulgarian Military Command raised a task for the development and possible production of a light reconnaissance and attack aircraft powered by the Alfa-Romeo 126RC34 engine with a takeoff power of 565,5 kW/770 hp. Blgarski of kaproni - [Kazanlak], under engineer Kaligaris presented its project - KB -11, but it was rejected. This was a biplane. The second project presented was a monoplane with a shoulder high wing with a non-retractable landing gear but with the original profile. In Caproni's wind tunnel in Milan on the 07.10.1939 a scale model of aircraft was tested. Based on the results it was decided to build a prototype.Unfortunately when the prototype was complete it's unusual form earned the nickname " Kvazimodo" (the hunchback from the novel of Notre Dame). After inspection of the aircraft in April 1940 a report was drafted that declared basically that the inspectors would only fly in the aircraft if personally ordered by the Tsar. It was noted by the test pilots that the most important deficiencies in the aircraft were that during the take-off run the aircraft's direction had to be constantly changed to maintain a straight line, it was also nose heavy and the controls were very heavy. When landing contact with the ground occured at an angle which could easily lead to a nose-over. The cockpit was located above the wing in such a way that the crew would be in danger should the aircraft nose-over. The position of the wing hindered visibility for the pilot. It was considered that the attachment of the wing was not strong enough to meet it's requirement for operating from rough strips. The aircraft was rejected.
A number of changes were introduced, the major one placing the wing above the cockpit, a second prototype was accepted and approval for series production given. However, during the operation of the initial production aircraft it became obvious that the power of engine fitted was insufficient, therefore series production continued with the installation of more powerful engine. Directly before the beginning of the Second World War Bulgaria had in place a contract with Poland for the construction of the PZL-37 aircraft which included the delivery of a number of Bristol Pegasus XXI. however the war intervened which stopped the completetion of the aircraft but left the engines in the storage. The engines were then available for installation in the KB-11.
Besides the new engine a number of other changes were introduced and the aircraft became the KB-11A. Fazan. A total of 10 aircraft were completed.

You have control

Very nice challenge MReyn and I'm glad I solved the riddle of the mystery plane I'm also particularly indebted to you for the history concerning the "Fazan" which I only knew in its broadest lines.
I'm not quite ready to submit an offer therefore I declare open house for the time being.
However I'd like to make all concerned aware that I'm having terrible difficulties in logging in with this beautiful forum.
Nine times out of ten whenever I'm trying to post a message the system refuses to log me in though I enter my usual registered name and password!
This is very frustrating and time consuming and has placed me in the awkward position of being unable to participate in various challenges (for instance the one relating to Caproni Stipa).
Well c'est la vie I suppose but maybe somebody might suggest something.

Can I take advantage of the open house declared by carson and post this? It is a design with an interesting story that has always fascinated me,

Would you believe it?! Another three residents died in last nights episode! Very dangerous place to live.

KB-11A
Interesting aircraft Mel, good challenge and well solved Carson!

It is a design with an interesting story
British design, late sixties, early seventies perhaps?

I believe this is British design which I think may have come out of Hawker Siddeley/British Aerospace in the 1970s as a Trident successor. I can't remember the design number but remember the layout because it is so much like the Boeing 757 though pre-dates it by several years. And bear in mind the 757 had a T-tail until very late in its pre-production layout.

I'm currently in Tokyo with no access to a follow-on so Open House please if I am the winner (although I actually haven't given a design name/number so perhaps someone else can give more).

Yes, the HS.134.

Let me say that Oncemorealoft is the "moral winner" though Kieron Kirk submitted the full designation if correct and confirmed by Obaman of course.
But don't let this message influence the final decision.

Let me say that Oncemorealoft is the "moral winner".

I must agree, as I am the "immoral winner".

Ok then.

Since "the moral winner" posted open house, I'll jump in if I may.

If anyone disagrees, then ignore this post.

Sorry it took me 16 hours to return to the board! I'm glad you guys saved me the quandary of deciding the winner as I was gutted to see oncemorealoft had forgotten the name after giving his pitch perfect description.

I don't recognise your image Mel, but I am getting used to that

Visible here.

I'll jump in if I may
I'll jump in with the Nieuport-Delage 122, especially for the top view, but the tails on the profiles look more Ni-D125ish?

Carson,

Sorry Mate - I forgot my previous pledge to send any posts to you separately. Noyade can see it.

Noyade,

I have the aeroplane as the NI-D 122.

Good NB - it's all yours when you're up.
