The thought process of an obsessive/compulsive plane spotter

(Thinks to himself upon seeing S’lands silhouette…)
“Dammit! I’ve seen that before somewhere. Where? I bet it’s French. I’ve seen that tail before? Clever man, he’s going for the French again! Dewoitine! That’s it ! A Dewoitine.”

Looks and looks. “Dammit! Nothing matches. I’m sure there was a French Marine floatplane with that tail!” Finds it, the Bernard H.110. “There’s gotta be more Bernards than this, surely?! “Ahh, here we go, the Bernard 260!”

“Goddammit!! It has an open cockpit!?? Wait a minute, wait a minute, what’s this?..” Reads the line which states that it “underwent numerous modifications during its test programme”. “That’s it, that’s it! Gotta be!? Now stop mucking about, get your answer posted, don’t forget to put a question mark at the end and take your son to school!”

Thank's S'land! Stop beating yourself up mate, I'm sure we both realise that there are bigger problems in life than the Bernard 260 with or without an enclosed cockpit!

I was disappointed to find this next challenge as I have an old Putnam that promised me it was "comprehensive" yet missed this one for some reason?

Ridge Runner,

"LM... what is your reference about?"

It's my offer to redraw line drawings as silhouettes for anyone who wishes. So far three people have taken up the offer.

Noyade,

I'm looking at the angled rectangles in the front view of your latest offering.... Looks like a folding wing job?

LM

Sorry, I realised afterwards. Thanks for the offer, I'll remember next time. Enjoy your day! RR

Hi LM. Yep, folding wings although I'm not sure why they bothered doing this.

My choice would be the Kokusai Ta-Go, a one-way light attack aircraft flown in Japan 1945.

I do not know how W-K got it, but having looked it up I believe that he is correct. As you say RR, learning something new makes the forum great.

Spot on WK! If the situation had been reversed I would never have found it. Anyone know why Francillion left it out of his Japanese Aircraft of the Pacific War book? Is it a recent historical find?

Anyway, control is yours Walter-Karl.

I learned about the Ta-Go myself only a couple of months ago, hence I remembered it.
Please consider it OPEN HOUSE

To be fair it is a unique planform... unmistakeable. A nice machine if only it had been built.. and flown! Like an overgrown A-5! Nice!

Just waiting for evansb.... RR

Yesss...RR, it is the outline of the North American XF-108 Rapier. The design failed acceptance by the USAF, but elements were incorporated in the XB-70. You have control.
