I think you are after outriggers, but who and where and which country are still full mystery….

R.E-P- II in France had bicycle wheels as outriggers in 1908, but yours must be earlier and not necessarily from France. Or was it?

Edit: Aaa, not paying attention. Withdrawn (the French part).

LM,

Yes mate it was!

Reg,

Not the outriggers! Yoo said it in your first post as I did in my reply!

My post 26118 all but gives you all you need. It's like a treasure map, all you need is X marks the spot, plus another letter

Reg,

I see you've done an edit and said it again, now I am ramminig it home aren't I. Not French as I said before, look for a country with a similar (terminological) history!

I hope I am not as stupid as I currently feel I am

No more ramming, I'll manage, or maybe the cavalry charges in and rescues me

You said
landing-gear
America was the first country to use this term (and it still infuriates me because it's also take-off gear!)

Maybe not the cavalry, but here's a little helping hand.

The word that you keep saying Reg, as I did is Bicycle, also often used to refer to tandem undercarriages!!

Now ram it home, X marks the spot!!

I used the word landing gear 'coz that's what my reference calls it.

Yes, but train d'aterissage means the same thing.

Bicycle, also often used to refer to tandem undercarriages!
Aa, I had discounted it, because Graeme had already coined it in and LM discussed it on the previous page.

Maybe it's me, or the clues, but I can't believe one of you haven't snapped it up yet

Running out of time as I have to go offline for a while soon. If you decode this clue above (it's a URL folks), you will need to go to Russian Aviation Museam link (there's that RAM again). Timer started now

Have been too busy to prepare a new one, and will not be able to monitor until afternoon or so, so Open House, please.
