MEL is syntactically similar to Tcl and Perl. It provides some memory management and dynamic array-allocation, and offers direct access to functions specific to Maya. The majority of standard Maya commands are default MEL scripts, saved in the Maya Program Files directory.
MEL is fairly limited compared to mainstream scripting languages. It is not object oriented, and lacks advanced features such as associative arrays. Very few improvements have been made to it in recent years, and in Maya 8.5, Python was added to Maya as an alternative to MEL.
There you go.....................

May I take this opportunity, on behalf of all the players on the AH&N "Quiz" threads (some of whom are away on business), to wish Mel a Very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns and once again thank him for his invaluable efforts in maintaining the three lists, it would be unimaginable chaos without them!!!![Big Grin](https://www.pprune.org/images/smilies2/eusa_clap.gif)

Graeme, YES!
Varga RMI-1, the early Hungarian turboprop project (1940) which was designed for Jendrassik Cs-1 turboprop Jendrassik Cs-1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, then fitted with two different sets of piston engines, but never flow, because it was destroyed in a bomb raid (1944) before it could fly itself.
Over to you

Belated Birthday Wishes Mel. ![Thumb](https://www.pprune.org/images/smilies/thumbs.gif)
G'day Reg, thanks...
...but I did something silly today. I joined a gymnasium run by ex-army physical instructors and don't feel all that well now. I'm sure the wiry one will come in the night and snap my neck while I sleep if I say too much in the negative, so I'll leave it there...
Open House.
