Thanks HP,

I will put up another challenge in a few moments, I am going back to the garden, but will check back frequently (and take a well earned quaff of something cooling no doubt)

Here 'tiz then, should be pretty easy!

That will be near enough from a silhouette for me; I should have said it was a glider!!

Actually it's the unpowered Messerschmitt Me 328A. Originally proposed as a suicide fighter, the powered B variant was doomed to failure by excessive vibration from it two pulse-jet engines.

Edited to add image and correct the above to say that it was originally intended as a Parasite fighter, the suicide (bomber) option was a later desperate attempt to resurrect the project!

HappyPass has control

Wierd, this website seems to get things the other way round... or maybe I did not read too thoroughly...
Messerschmitt Me 328

Your picture was just labeled as "me328[1].jpg" and I just copy-pasted the nearest title/header...
Anyway!

Well, I'm off for some up-hill running...
I'll be back reasonably soon.

In the meantime a clue (for whom it may concern):

Oh I love to climb a mountain
And reach the highest peak!

Well, maybe not the highest of all...

Well, if that's not good timing, I can't tell what it is...
Looks like my well-disguised clue was not needed after all!

irishair2001 has requested an Open House!

A good Challenge and well done irishair

It was almost a triple post too; see the time of my char-break edit to my post above!!

As Players seem as scarce as hens-teeth this weekend; I'll bang another up and return to the spadework and check periodically!

I'm interested in this novel variant of a well known type, that surpisingly isn't on Mel's list!

Do I really see what I think I see? A... ducted fan on the nose of a biplane?

Note to self: do not attempt to run ten kilometers after eating this much... it causes hallucinations...

Not to worry HP; you're not hallucinating, it is a ducted-fan, now all you need to do is find it!!

Edited to say; just checked back (the thread I mean, mine is buggered from gardening ) and I see that RegDep is on the active list (didn't think he was due back 'til Tuesday )!!

Clue, there is a female connection with this and my last challenge!

Good / morning gentlemen from cool but sunny Baltic Sea coast. And Happy Eastern to all!

Slow line and iPhone so that I cannot search the challenge. But immediately thought: looks like a ducted fan fut from which era ???

HappyPass, I trust you: go and find it! Cannot help you because I don't know what ducted fan was called at the time and in the languages that may apply. And for jogging - I never did that. Cannot undrstand why someone would start from somewhere just to return long time later all in sweat and exhausted to the same place. Prefer staying where I am and enjoying life.

Well, I think I got the reference, and with that the nationality of the plane...

Guten abend Reg,

Good to hear from you; I hope your break is going well and thanks for your Easter wishes

HP; FYI I haven't found a photo of the challenge as drawn on the web, one that purports to be is just the plain engined version IMHO. The drawing is on the web, along with several descriptions of the powerplant.

Are there other female connections of Willy Messerschmitt than Lilly Strohmeyer?

The Baroness?

Ach: Hanna Reitsch...

That wasn't the female connection I had in mind Reg, my one professionaly connects both this and my last challenge (that was made by Messerschmitt, but this one isn't)!

The last one being studied also as a suicide plane, I had thought of Hanna Reitsch, but still can't link a (correct) biplane to her...

Edit:
Test pilot Hanna Reitsch carried out a test programme on the two prototypes of the glider version, releasing from tow aircraft at altitudes of 3,000-6,000 m (9,800-19,700 ft).
Edit^2:
I have a thing for the bumps on the engine cowl, which are generally either Italian, German (less likely) or Waco (something also in Romania and here and there around the globe). Still cannot find the right... 8-cylinder radial?

Maybe not a true duct fan but the propeller protected for cutting observation balloon cables...

One thing is for sure, I'll never ever believe anybody anymore using the words "well-known", "easy", "not too difficult" and so on

Off to dinner, see ya later!

I meant to say that if anyone's got a photo, it would be Graeme in his big book of biplanes and I think he'd recognise the donor craft!

Edited to say; not a cable cutter Reg, solely for propulsion!

Like the famous test-pilot, it's all German

I have it down as a nine cylinder, not because it says so, but because the manufacturer's "listed" radials are. It does say that the type number (which isn't on Wiki's list) also had the name of a metal, but I wouldn't make a meal of that, as it's not listed either !! So I think it's a nine, but I wouldn't shut the gate on an eight!
