Federal Transport Minister Catherine King has appeared to acknowledge that Australia is short of air traffic controllers – despite the organisation responsible stating it has enough staff to run its network.

I asked what cause of action would be the basis of a "class action" against Airservices. Mr M's answer:Are you able to cite a provision of the Airservices Act or other legislation which Airservices breaches if it does not provide a service (and issues a NOTAM giving notice that the service will not be provided)? The executives of Airservices are making a bunch of money not providing a service. Why would they be bothered to organise anything different?
According to an earlier poster, this is a part of the 'organisational landscape' out there. When I look at the various public and private organisations involved in aviation in Australia, I tend to agree.

Are you able to cite a provision of the Airservices Act or other legislation which Airservices breaches if it does not provide a service (and issues a NOTAM giving notice that the service will not be provided)? The executives of Airservices are making a bunch of money not providing a service. Why would they be bothered to organise anything different?
According to an earlier poster, this is a part of the 'organisational landscape' out there. When I look at the various public and private organisations involved in aviation in Australia, I tend to agree.

The Board is the governing body of Airservices and is accountable for deciding the objectives, strategies and policies to be followed by Airservices, and for ensuring that Airservices fulfils its statutory functions in a proper, efficient and effective manner.

No. Often people say "how long has this been going on"? It's become the new normal, service reductions (Operational Restrictions) or no service at all (TIBA).
NOTAMS issued for reduced Tower hours are being issued like confetti. CASA ORA are approving these amendments and the lack of service provision.
Big sky theory. Airspace roulette.
But it's not just TIBA/TRA/OPR Restriction NOTAMS. ARFF reductions. Radars and other equipment eg aerodrome beacons not being fixed. AsA providing Approach Services without Terminal Area Radar.
And the quality of the some of the NOTAMS are very poor. It seems no-one cares or the issuing authority are simply too busy (there have been heaps of NOTAMS).

This thread tells that story, and little by little there seems to be some media traction, and finally ministerial acknowledgement. And valuable as you can’t easily search historic NOTAMs (at least I don’t think you can).

The Airservices Board hasn’t said or done squat about what’s going on. Maybe they reckon they’re PEEing all over it.
