I reckon QF would have all that sort of stuff layed out in any contract they sign. It would not be an open ended contract. I know QF can be stupid but not when it comes to this sort of money.

QANTAS has Delayed A380 Decision

Just heard from a friend in QF that the decision over A380 has been delayed, but he didn't know how long for.

Don't tell me QF is trying to figure out if they can buy an SP version of the A380........

or is it a decision to fit a pool for the crew....

The decision is who will maintain the beast, John Holland Aviation Services or Qantas Engineering.
This is the reason the Engineers EAB is deliberately been stalled by QF, until they, QF, decide what to do etc.

gee , what a surprise!!! typical QF management that are always late with decisions , umm what also happened to that so called Sydney precinct review it has also been put to one side, my guess is that qantas really want the A380 inhouse otherwise they would of awarded it to JHAS and this would all be over.

Why not just have the Jetstar engineers provide the coverage?

i would say that the jetstar engineers would have alot on there plate with the 787 on its way at the start of 09 if i got the date right. I wonder if they will have to bid for the 787 work or not since i havent really heard much in regards to the 787 and who is going to service them

I believe JHAS are tendering for both the J* 787 and VB 777 contracts.

Thats some interesting goss QF22. I think they need to cross their fingers for this one.
But knowing QF they have probably already made their decision but are just playing mind games with everyone.
Why is V.Aus letting the 777 go or is it just early days

Tendering

JHAS are a MRO if they want more work they have to go out after it.
If their tender is competitive, it's up to the airline if they outsource the work to them.

Well QF22 on that logic QF would struggle to do their own work cost wise. Surely JHAS would be cheaper than QF ACS due to the lower overheads and lack of QF politics.

JH cheaper than QF ? ? ?

I don't know which is cheaper, at a guess I would say JH, but I am just a LAME not a bean counter.
I guess we will find out soon, I also don't know if cost is the only criteria?

thosecotos - Virgin Tech an independent MRO? 100% owned by Virgin Holdings and whose only customer is Virgin Blue, it's been spruiked as the in-house maintenance organisation so I hardly think it qualifies as an independent MRO.Then there is the question of (cap)ability !!
Cheers

Qantas Management better pull their finger out then and get the place organised for the aircraft's arrival. The thing will be here before you know it.

Looks like plenty of 737-800 and -400 overflow work to keep the likes of JHAS busy this year though.

One door closes and another one opens

Mostly due to the incompetence of the Qantas Engineering management of course. So, for as long as these drongoes remain in charge at QF, there should never be a shortage of overflow work for the good folks at JHAS.
