Skyguide salary : so low !!!

Hi,

When you check on skyguide website, the ATCO salary is pretty low :

- about 5900 CHF (about 3900 euros) per month (after the first radar qualification)
- about 7300 CHF (about 4900 euros) per month (after the second radar qualification)

On the top of that, you add about 1200 CHF (about 800 euros) for special responsabilities.

What about shift money ? How much is it ?
What about the tax ? I think tax is a bitch over there (40 - 50%). So what left after all ?

Switzerland has a very very high cost living, so why ATCO are so low paid ?

In comparison, average salary in CH is 5800 CHF. ATCO are not really higher! End the average salary of high qualified people is 9500 CHF. Why is it so low for ATCO ?

Hi there,

you do earn quite a lot: skyguide Internet
With their first licence (Endorsement 1) Air Traffic Controllers are paid CHF 89'200 to 99'500 annual salary (including additional pay for extra responsibility). One year after obtaining their full licence, the annual salary ranges from CHF 105'627 to 137'909 (after 25 years, from CHF 151'359 to 195'074).

There's also extra pay for working night shifts etc.

Hope this helps!

Ouchh, They updated their website about the salary!!

Can you tell me more about the extra money for night, weekend, ... ? Is it tax free like at eurocontrol ?

Is the tax really about 30% ?

But still, I am surprised how ATCO in CH are not so well paid. Indeed, if you compare :

- France : median salary : approx 1600€, fully qualified ATCO : 5500€ (all in), namely approx 3.5 times the median salary
- Belgium (where tax is a bitch) : median salary 1500€, fully qualified ATCO : 3500€ (all in), namely 2.3 times the median salary
- Germany : median salary 1600€, fully qualified ATCO : approx 4000€ (net and all in), namely 2.5 times the median salary

While in CH, median salary 5823CHF (in 2008 : mean salary in switzerland - myScience.ch - The Swiss Portal for Research and Innovation / living in CH/ salary in Switzerland: phd, postdoc, prof, researcher), and a fully qualified ATCO gets 8750 CHF (nowadays!!), namely ONLY 1.5 times the median salary.

So, ATCO are not so well paid in CH
You must compare to cost of living OR to median salary. The big mac rule is very efficient for that.

Maybe extra money for shift is about 10-15% of salary ?

Thank for info.

ps : last question : why the fully qualified ATCO salary goes from 105'627 to 137'909 ? Why a so large discrepancy ?

Mikiki,
What is your point you are trying to get across?
Or are you a journalist trying to stir it a bit and get various salaries via other means?
We live in a free trade society, so if people aren't happy they can always move on !
BTW Eurocontrol salaries are not tax free, they don't pay one national tax system but pay an internal tax that increases with salary

malecontrol, at least you don't have to spend your money on vacation at sunny archipelago with white beaches and those tiny umbrellas stuck into your drinks.

I think i have encountered him on that forum too, if it is the same french forum that i am thinking of??

"cheese eating surrender monkeys rumour network" or CESMRN for short.

There was a great thread titled, "if you point a gun in my face would I still cut fuel lines into paris because I'm angry at being made to work until I am 62?" There was not a lot of debate in there. The consensus was.....no.

Hahahahaha 27 years in 28 degrees celcius, on white sand beaches would make you want to go somewhere else.

It's not only about what you can do with that money....question is why should I take such huge a responsibility for such a low pay?

Here we have some funny rules when it comes to pay....a normal human mind can't possibly comprehend what the hell is going on.

For an example, here Dash8 captains are paid between $7000-$9000 fixed!!!! The same company pays their FOs somewhere around $1300 basic and their take home pay never goes above $2100 (that would be something like 90hrs of flying to earn that much)!!! We've got something terribly wrong going on here.
