Does anyone know who might own or where some well-to-do PRIVITE 747-400 might be based in the near term? Apparently someone owns a 747 SP and they are making a transistion to the 400. I had heard it was in the "Middle East" and that is a lot of land.

United has some 400s fairly cheaply and that is why someone may be buying one of theirs.

Any ideas?

H.M. Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman and current user of a B747-SP was supposed to get his brand new -400 first quarter 2003 but this has obviously been delayed a bit.

The aircraft is in LHT in Hamburg, as well and I can't wait to see her.

Bahrain has an SP, and they have a new 400 on order, I believe its undergoing flight testing at Boeing at the moment before being kitted out for delivery sometime later in the year or next??

I noticed recently that the advert was placed with Flight International. If you search their website under Flight Crew/ Middle East you should find it. I would send you the link, but I'm down route right now....

Anybody out there familiar with that part of the world know what a job with a rich owner or President would be like? Why would they search worldwide for a 400 crew? Wouldn't they take someone from their military or someone highly qualified from the civilian or corporate world?

I did see the ad in Flight International. I would guess that a job like this requires lots of sitting around and often would be asked to fly on short notice. Not bad for some people, but probably not the job that many would want. Or them to want YOU!

Jim,

Just heard today that the bankruptcy court approved the sale of a UA 747-422 to the Dubai Air Wing for $55 million. I wonder who will fly it?

I don't know who will fly it. $55 million is a great price. I think it could be a good opportunity for someone.

I only heard about this 2 days ago.

Jim,

To gain command in a situation like this is not an easy task...

After being screened and "accepted", so to speak, you will undergo a background check the likes of which the FBI and CIA combined can only dream about.

After passing this bit (6-8 months, in my case) you get a one year contract with all the bells and whistles.

If you renew or leave, doesn't matter...you have made the "A" list as far as management, handling skills, and most importantly "discretion". If you leave you will be free to work anywhere for anyone in the mid east...

These VIP operations carry more than the principal, they frequently are hosts to many heads of states, among others....

And the "on call" was non-existant in my case...over 4 and a half years flying a VIP 727, I never received less than 24 hours notice of an upcoming flight....
