Over wing exit door opened

What happens when an over wing emergency exit door is opened by a passenger when the plane is waiting to depart? Presumably it’s not a quick fix?
This has just happened to a flight my son is on. Apparently the aircon wasn’t working so someone opened the door…..
They are now off the plane and back in the airport.

If it’s the overwing exit without a slide then it’s an easy fix by maintenance if nothing is damaged.
If it’s an exit with a slide that subsequently deployed then its a bigger headache.
Not to mention a very expensive slide.

Seems a new plane was brought in. Door openers arrested by local police once they were seated on the new plane. Presumably that was for ease of identification.
