G’day all,

I seem to recall a past requirement (DOT, DOA, CAA, CASA . . . . . ) for pilots to wear a watch - can anyone shed light is this is still required ?

cheers Oz2

Still there.

CAO20.18, Appendix 1.1.d requires the carriage of "an accurate timepiece indicating the time in hours, minutes and seconds. This may be carried on the person of the pilot or navigator."

Are there still pilot ‘influencers’ on YouTube and now Tik Tok trying to sell watches alongside filming themselves getting dressed for work?

CAO 20.18 is repealed and replaced with Part 91 etc.

No, you can’t claim a watch on your tax return.

Anyone mechanical watch? I am old school and wear a mechanical Swiss made pilot watch. How long will your smartwatch or smartphone last without recharging and becoming not so smart? :p

MOS Part 91
Time

1. The equipment must display accurate time in hours, minutes and seconds.

2. The equipment must be:

(a) fitted to the aircraft; or

(b) worn by, or immediately accessible to, the pilot for the duration of the flight.

Aren’t Rolex GMT Masters mandatory?

Any over sized watch will do. Preferably a chiming one for social occasions.
