TUI’s new Hapag-Lloyd Express to sell through agents
TUI Group has named its new Köln-Bonn based budget airline Hapag-Lloyd Express.
From December the airline will operate eight 148-seat Boeing 737-700 aircraft, chartered from Germania, on domestic and ten European routes, including Barcelona, Milan, Paris and Rome.
Announcing details of the new airline in Hanover today, TUI chairman, Dr Michael Frenzel, said: ‘Our strong aviation brand ‘Hapag-Lloyd’ and the partner Germania, with whom we have had business relations for many years, form the launch pad from which we will participate rapidly and highly flexibly in the growing low-cost aviation sector.’
TUI said the airline’s name was a ‘logical further development of the successful Group aviation brand “Hapag-Lloyd”…a symbol for aviation expertise and competence for the last 30 years’.
A new 100% TUI subsidiary will be set up to handle sales and operations for Hapag-Lloyd Express. Tickets will not only be sold via the internet and call centres but also through TUI’s travel agency partners, making the airline the first no-frills operator in Germany to use traditional sales channels.
Prices will start from €10 (£6.40) per person for domestic routes and from €25 (£16) per person for European flights.
