I noticed on the news that they had the engine running with the top cowl off.. I wondered if they were going to try and fly it out!

I guess that depends why it was there in the first place.

20 Litre fuel cans shown under the left wing in media pics.

Lack of fuel possibly.

Oh, so that’s how rumours start!

The video I saw showed them DRAINING the tanks into the jerry cans, presumably readying it for wing removal and transportation.

The meeja claimed the pilot "missed the runway" and landed in a North Balwyn dog-walking park. I wonder which runway they thought he missed? "Missed it by that much, 86"??

This would have to be the most exciting thing to happen in North Balwyn since Federation.........

They will be talking about it for years to come, right after grandchildren and school fees.

The pilot might have been overwhelmed, with the performance of the Cherokee PA-32/260.

YLIL is a grass strip and where he landed doesn't look much different. Maybe the pilot lives nearby and needed to get home quickly, so he landed as close to his house as he could. :suspect:

Just lucky he didn't land in a dog park in the western suburbs, the headline would be more along the lines "Heroic pilot lands crippled aircraft in dog park, then tragically mauled to death by several dangerous dog breeds, owner says his dog has never done anything like that and it will miss a pit fight next week while it's locked up so is seeking compensation for lost winnings"

More likely, "Owner sues pilot after beloved pet pit-bull killed by aircraft landing in dog park". :)

YLIL is a tad longer than that dog park btw. But not so conveniently placed to catch the next bus home.

Ya'll, he was clearly traveling with his dog who needed to get out for a pee break and a bit of a walk. Where else would you expect him to land it?!

PA32-260 has a reputation as a bit of a dog?

All jokes aside (don't stop) wow, what a friggen awesome job landing there without a scratch (pun intended). I hope we hear the story from the pilot somewhere somehow.

What's happened with it? Are they going to fly it out?

Not too far from the truth, I’d say 500 metres from his street.

Many years ago my brother and I were flying our kites at the local park. We took our dog to give it a run.
Along came old mate greyhound trainer with about half a dozen dogs.
We called our dog to come back to us but he looked at us and said "no way.. this will be fun".
So our dog started running around old mate and very soon he toppled over and was being pulled along through the muddy grass by his team of dogs..
Almost like bare foot water skiing.. was as funny as to look at it...
Anyway, he finally gets up and goes away.
About 20' later he's back and wants our name and address.
He comes to the house saying that he's going to sue us for loss of winnings at Olympic Park on Saturday night as a couple of his hounds were injured.
So Dad then goes to the Police and they question us about how many dogs did he actually have..
Turns out there is a strict limit. And he was over..
So next thing we know is that he is back on our doorstep again offering us the opportunity to be his guests at the track....
Seems like he had a further think as to what his position was.
So the thread line of dogs and being sued wasn't that far fetched at all...
