Hi,

I (m30) am with my partner and he(m24) is waiting for an update from Emirates in case he’s been successful with his application.

I am now worried about him going there, I am not keen on the idea I won’t be seeing him much but we want to make it work.

Can anyone explain how it works with emirates? He told me that for 6 months he won’t be having his passport and will only be able to meet him in places where the company will make him fly to.

is it true that after 6 months he can choose a place where to be stationed frequently? How does it work?

Is anyone in a distant relationship and give me any advices and tell me what you’re doing to meet and how it’s going or reassure me if possible?

my partner wants to work there only for 2 years to have an experience and then come back to the UK and work for British Airways, apparently it’s important having an experience with emirates in your curriculum.

thank to anyone that will reply.

The information you have received is/was inaccurate.

Companies are not permitted to hold on to passports in the UAE, EK is not known to breach this rule for pilots or cabin crew. Processing a residence visa typically takes less than a week.

Initial training and lack of travel concessions are likely the only real impediments to maintaining your desired level of contact.

Good luck with your relationship. This is certainly not an impossible scenario.
