JAR Compliant by when?

In the T & E forum there is a post about employment with Air Berlin in which it is stated that as they are not "JAA" you need a German licence to work for them.

How long have companys got before that do have to be?

Sounds very unlike the usual German keenness for EU unification, or is this simply a bit of xenophobic protectionism on AB's part?

I beleive it varies from state to state. In Sweden all commercial operations applicable to JAR-OPS 1 had to have JAR-OPS AOC by 1 July 2001.

Other states have decided to take it a bit easier and give JAR-OPS more time to mature.

this is a real farce...the LBA (German LBA) forced all companies to change manuals, procedures and what all is required to comply to JAA. This happened quiet some time ago.
Air Berlin IS JAR-compliant.

What your post correctly says (but may be misunderstood) is the simple fact that GERMANY is not ready! No JAR-FCL in place, the law to introduce all the required changes has not even been presented to the parliament.

The LBA has started promising all this well back in the '90s, I assume that there will be no change in this year, spring next year sounds more realistic.

And since there is no JAR-FCL you received the message that you will need

a. a German licence
or
b. a validation

as this is still the existing law...
