Have never seen a helicopter on a trailer attached to a 4x4 on a motorway, well did today on the M25 near Chertsey! Any more info?

Are you sure it was not flying very very low ?! ;)
On a trailer, maybe the best way to travel 100% safe with an helicopter ... :}

Maybe been on a trailer is the safer way to travel! It was painted orange and black if that helps with ID?

I've seen it a few times, well not R44 but R22.
might be cheaper to transport it like that instead of flying it to the new owner.
or might be a registration thing..?
I know about a german guy (close to berlin) who came to London by car and drove back to berlin with the R22 on a trailer.
So there must be a good reason why people do that.

Did it all across southern africa while doing game capture...
Cheaper and you get to keep your kit and fuel with you on the back of a pick up.
Was only with a 22 - never seen a 44 on a trailer, besides crashed ones. We were advised against it due to the stress on the trail boom while traveling.

Once transported an R22 on a trailer for a friend that had an over speed to a maintenance facility behind my 4x4. Even though it was only a little R22 I still felt a bit cool towing a helicopter down the motorway
UNTIL a HGV with a seaking on its trailer overtook me !
Absoloutley true story.

Yep, the most common reason to see a machine on the back of a lorry is when it's en-route to maintenance following an overspeed/tech failure. Strange sight to see, it's not natural...

My guess is that it's likely to be G-CBYY, it's out of CofA & has recently been purchased by Startrade in Germany. Take a look on G-INFO (http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1&mode=detailnosummary&fullregmark=CBYY), there is a pic on the record.
See quite a few types on trailer coming in & out of local airport with paintshop based, H369 was the last one I saw on trailer with 4x4 towing, albeit minus blades & engine etc...
Looks like the photo is at Weston-Super-Mare; one of the old Helidays events.
