I realise this may have been done to death, but are unable to find any indepth info.

Can anyone please recommend any schools on the West Coast to convert a OZ ATPL to a FAA ATP. Will I still need to obtain a TSA and/or study visa etc?

If you have done the conversion what are your thoughts on the process?

Thanks

Process is very straight forward but time consuming. You do need TSA clearance, you do need a student visa, you need to get your Aus license verified by the FAA, this can take a couple of weeks. Then write the FAA ATP written, study for and do the oral, and do the flight training and get a sign off to do the flight test. Do not make the same mistake as many, the writtens might be easy compared to ICAO, beware of the oral and flight test. OR if you are doing a Type rating that will incorporate the oral and flight test.

Thanks.

When you say you need to get your Aus license verified by the FAA, this can take a couple of weeks. Does this mean you can submit a copy of your licence for verification or does the original need to be sighted, then you wait a few weeks and then can do the written/flight test?

Contact the FAA, They will request a copy of your certificate from Aus.
