I have a query about the new CAA interpretation of GR24 which basically states that engines must now be changed on date and not on hours flown (eg 12 years with a lycoming engine) if it is going to be used in any way commercially - whereas it used to be allowed to run to either date or hours flown (2000), your choice.

I know this was proposed and is part of the new regulations but what I do not know is from what date is this compulsory? some say it is 2007 some say 2008 and some say it is already compulsory. Does anyone actually KNOW? Also, is there anything in writing which actually says when this is compulsory from?

Thanks for any comments.

GR24 came into affect in April 2006. Aircraft operated for Hire or Reward must have there engine replaced at the manufacturers TBO +20%, i.e. 12years +20% fot Lycoming & TCM engines.
Private aircraft can continue 'on condition'.
