What does the CF stand for?

Try this and see if you can make any sense out of GE's model numbering system. There must be some logic there somewhere, but it looks to me like it may be GE 'in house' knowledge.

I beleive CFM (as in CFM56) stands for Commercial Fan Motor, so maybe CF could mean Commercial Fan.

Oops - from the GE web page:
'CFM is not an acronym. The company (CFM), and product line (CFM56), got their names by a combination of the two parent companies' commercial engine designations: GE's CF6 and Snecma's M56.'
Still doesn't explain the CF thing, so I stand by my previous guess!

Thanks folks.

I figured commercial fan but thought that there might be some inside knowledge. Latin for bestest engine ever "circulae furtora" maybe.

Alas it seems the romance is not here this time around.. :O
