Relations between Donnington Hall and MAN are pretty cordial right now.

I would have thought relations between baby H.Q. and TBI are doing rather well following the success of the launch of services from Cardiff?

O.K. - so it looks like it will either be Luton or Manchester. However does anyone know when an announcement will be made?

Surely it can't be too far away unless the 3rd base isn't going to be operating by the start of the summer schedules - i.e. end of March.

Maybe I'm being too naive (again before Buster says anything!).

No 'baby' slots currently posted through ACL for LTN at this stage.

Hapag Express have applied for LTN-Berlin starting Summer though.

Apparently bmibaby is in "active" talks with Manchester Airport Group who own East Midlands Airport (baby base), Bournemouth (buzz base), Humberside (?) and of course MAN.

Also rumours of Teeside!

So where?

Thank you Rentaghost - doesn't look good then!

I'd also heard about HLX doing Berlin out of Luton but rumour has it that they want to operate into Tegel but the Berlin authorities want them to go to Schonefeld.

In any case, let's hope that the loads on Luton - Cologne pick up - they've gone through the floor since Christmas.

Buster - of course I have been jogging!

The latest word is that it is MAN and it may be announced early next week.

Anyone any idea of routes?

It may well be, but....

What would the move signal about their intention for bmir ops at MAN? Would they transfer all existing routes (EDI, GLA etc)into 'baby' and if so switch off the pipeline into their own transatlantic operation and their other code-share routes?

Alternatively, would they operate 'baby' services alongside bmir (and mainline - LHR & transatlantic) and have a rather messy set-up from both a staffing and customer / branding perspective. Also, if they leave the Scottish routes to bmir, where will 'baby' fly? BFS perhaps to get the short sectors in, padded out with the usual loco destinations? Viable perhaps, but puts them in direct competition with Easyjet and all the charter / seat only incumbents at MAN.

Sounds to me like the deal that would work best for bmi, is to transfer the existing regional routes to 'baby' + BFS and a few european routes and to forget about developing a hub/spoke operation out of MAN. I can't believe this is something that MAN Plc would be prepared to encourage, let alone incentivise financially.

The deal that MAN Plc would want, e.g keep the existing bmi services and use 'baby' to exploit gaps in the market (where??) isn't one that would appeal to bmi.

Who knows, but I'd bet my money elsewhere.

MAN or MME???

MAN is definately the strongest rumour, and has been now for some time. There are apparently plans in the pipeline for a new downstairs lounge on the 'southern front' (by Gates 1, 16 & 17) which will take up the space where the bmi engineers are presently located, and that the passengers will be bussed from here to remote stands! The pax would have to be boarding the bus as the a/c is landing to make those short turnarounds!

But then I've also been talking to people at MME who reckon the rumours there are still very strong.......

Maybe bmibaby will just surprise us like they did with Cardiff.

Interesting if they try to reduce turnarounds at MAN but they can't solve the fact that you have to wait often to cross the first runway. Anyway why should the rest of us not get equal treatment and park closer to the runway?
