Birmingham Passengers exceed 8m

The 8m passenger passed through BHX over the holiday period.

2002 will be the first year the airport has acheived 8m pax in a year.

The introdution of low cost carrier MyTravelLite and good loads on other carriers, especially Emirates has made this possible.

Lets hope we can acheive 9m in 2003.

Lets also hope that BHX doesn't continue to have such high runway charges and the highest property rental charges in 2003!

Are Emirates going to increase their frequency for 2003 from the current one flight a day?

low cost low cost low cost.

When are people going to stop being so sentimental regarding the introduction of a low cost carrier. I am sure MyTravel have added extra pax through put but it is early days yet before their presence will be really felt.

I am sure it has a lot to do with the existing carriers doing better than before too?

Maybe thats were some other carriers go wrong. They don't provide the "spin" that the cheapies really dwell on. Oh well, if it increases the brand it has to be done!

Red face Great News

Now let us all rejoice.
Unless Ian would care to correct me, BHX has one based carrier.
Maersk, remember Birmingham Exec, yep,it's us! Loyal to Brum for 20 Years. Never even acknowledged as a based carrier. Please feel free to support Emerates, MyTravel, even the odd Channel Island Airline with another identity crisis. We are still expanding as best we can given (my opinon) lack of support from our Trade Name. Oh and a load of help from the BHX. A real Low cost will move into CVT one day, MAN and LHR will prove more profitable to the big boys when a real Gulf crisis kicks off. Back to a regional,
stuck between two majors. BHX has watched the Flagcarriers decline, only SAS and Lufty fly in with non regional jet types, 737'each. Good news, lets see soon. Perhaps, when it goes pearshaped, BHX can rely on frt flights to the Midlands? Shoot, even BA seems to be getting out of BHX, apart from it's BASED CARRIER! Ian, I do not know who you are, but get the blikers off, in (guess) the 70's you had Wardair, BA and AA have pulled Stateside runs. Lets hope history does not repeat itself, but guess what, I can't see it happening..............................................

Bored, and Oh yeah, I relocated tenish years ago, to BHX

Emirates operated an additional A330 today as it did just before Christmas due to high loadings.

Tomorrow (5.1.03) EK39/40 will be oparted by a B777-200 HD.

So the flight you saw at 9.30 was the additional flight (A6EAC) not the start of the second daily service, that is looking more likely to be Oct 2003 at the earliest and would be an evening flight.

Oh right thanks for the correction Ian. I thought it was a bit stange emirates running two services within two hours of each other!!
I saw the 777 fly over today for the first time today, but i didnt realise it was a 777 (thought it was another 330) until i read your post!!
So why was the 777 run today then??-Do you know when another one will be coming in??

Both MAN & BHX gets the occasional 777 in place of the normal A330 to cope with bigger demand; MAN had a run of 777s during one half term.

Should you hear or see a 4 digit EK flight number, then you can work out what it is according to this pattern:

Extra flights = 3xxx
One-off charters = 5xxx
Delivery/test flights = 7xxx
Cargo flights = 9xxx

where xxx is the "normal" flight number.

There's no set pattern as to when 777s come in....though holiday periods may be the most likely time for them to schedule them.

Unhappy WEBLUEIT

At a pure guess, as you may know....
They both do their own sales. With SAS anyroads, BHX a feeder to the hub n spoke out of CPH. LH not quite the same, but you can bet they have got the German market in the pocket. BA send it all South. Oh for a Ferdi at all stations.................................
