BA Senior Managers - Lost the plot?

From todays Times.

Martin George, Director of Marketing

We have given up on Gatwick. It takes some overspill traffic from Heathrow — but Gatwick’s biggest problem is that it is just 40 miles away from Heathrow. We can’t make it profitable
If the reason that BA can't make any money on LGW due to it 'only' being 40 miles from LHR - why are they losing money and cutting back at BHX (120 miles) MAN (202 miles) EDI (411 miles).

The reason that BA is losing money at LGW is plain to anyone who works there - BA operation is incredibly ineffiecient and very badly run. If other major international operators can run profitable operations from LGW it must be something other than location that stops BA making money.
