Flybe v3?
For dear sake please put this animal down once and for all. No more please God. How many timed do you need to staple your nipples to know its going to hurt and won't achieve anything other than pain!!

Avooma are looking towards a fleet of ATR72's.
beregional and Avooma put 1st July date on their socials within ten minutes of each other.
My expectation on seeing that message is it is going to be a combining of ventures going forward with Avooma being the brand going forward. Especially with how much detail is on the Avooma website.
I'd be very surprised if it is not a merging announcement.
I think that the UK regional market could cope with a new entrant, but two new entrants would see to failures.
Loganair has gone into a slight retreat this past couple of years.
Eastern is looking at increasing their fleet by at least a third.
Certainly room for at least one more player, but not two.

Combining of what? Two pie in the sky ideas with no capital backing/plans/fleets/people. I assume the merging exercise will consist of putting all the crayons in one box?

Thanks SWBKCB. I think I will reserve judgment on Eastern's expansion other than someone stating that “I have heard”. They’re struggling for crew as it is never mind any expansion. This is all just pie in the sky stuff. Seems rife in the industry these days for it.
That proposed livery is horrible. Looks like something designed on MS Paint by someone who’s colourblind.
The press release is a bit over the top considering neither carrier has ever come close to launching or owning an aircraft.

Yeah, the Be Regional proposed branding was far nicer.
Anyway, it's all a bit of a nothing announcement. What next, codeshares with Global feeding their charter ops from Prestwick?

The press release made it sound like it was a merger between two long-established airlines, not two drawing-board ideas.
The fact that the Avooma executive quoted is their "Chief Vision Officer" says a lot.
The whole thing seems completely pie in the sky and more like a meeting of minds between two dreamers, rather than a serious, backed and funded commercial business endeavour.

In every other C-Level position, the job description is put in the title, and yet we don't do this for the person who is ultimately in charge - the person with the 'vision' for the business - so Chief Vision Officer makes perfect sense to me.

I suspect because it sounds slightly pretentious in a UK context? We all know that the US has ridiculous titles for roles e.g. Executive VPs for the most junior supervisory jobs and this seems to be yet another of those?

I'm curious to know what/why you think this is wrong?

You've obviously got a vision for what you think the future of UK regional air travel is. Great, that's a good thing. But now you need to turn that business into a reality if you want to see your planes actually in the air.
That's going to mean business planning, securing investment, getting an AOC and lots of regulatory approvals, signing commercial contracts with suppliers, obtaining insurance, buying/leasing aircraft, hiring crew, selling tickets, paying route charges etc. All of those combined are a huge amount of work and successfully navigating them will be a lot of graft and fair play to you when you manage it.
To do those you'll need lots of people working hard in unglamorous jobs. To me a "Chief Vision Officer" sounds like someone employed by a Sillicon Valley tech company with more money that sense to sit in a corner office blue-sky thinking all day long. Some ideas may become winners, most won't. It's maybe a nice-to-have in the good times, but it's the first job to go when money needs saving.
You've already got your vision and it's a fairly steady one, so it's probably not going to change much. Profitable UK regional flying. There, done. Now you need to turn that vision into a company that makes money. For that you'll need people with real job titles such as Chief Operating Officer, Director of Finance, Head of Operations, Chief Pilot, Head of Engineering etc.
Those are job titles that the real world recognises and respects because at the end of the day they get stuff done.
Anyone can have a vision. Very few can turn that into reality. Go and do the work to turn yours into a reality. I'll be the first to genuinely congratulate you once you do so.

The regional airline sector is particularly challenging, especially in relation to pilot availability and competition from the low cost airlines for same. Apart from financing that has to be the biggest challenging facing start up airlines in this space.
Difficult to get to an appropriate scale quick enough to become economically viable. Add such things as EU261 costs and you've got a big him to climb. Not convinced this is a serious outfit.
