Italian carrier Neos in the first quarter of 2024 schedules Verona – Derry flight, on board Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The airline currently files Saturday-only service from 27JAN24 to 17FEB24.

I very much doubt the tax payer sees much of a return from the £3.45m support with passenger figures so low.
With the new motorway from Derry to Belfast open and the return of Ryanair to BFS and schedule increases with easyJet giving passengers a better choice with day returns and value for money, the passenger figures can only drop further in my opinion.

City of Derry Airport is owned by Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) and costs ratepayers £3.45m to help with operational costs, which is five per cent of the council's entire annual budget.

As for a motorway from Derry to Belfast. Not quite…..

Hard to believe that over 16,000/month used to use the unsubsidised LDY-STN back in the day, and that at one point there were FR flights to both LTN and STN. Can’t help but feel the airport has painted itself into a corner.

easyJet

Using the easyJet link above you can select 'Derry / Londonderry LDY' but doesn't come up with any destinations yet. They must be planning on launching some flights for W24/25.
Gatwick or Geneva maybe?

They can't operate London as the specific requirements around the PSO prevent them from doing so. Watch out for a twice-weekly Edinburgh and twice-weekly Liverpool service from the winter, Mondays and Fridays.

If so, might easyJet be considering to offer flights to/from London on a commercial basis without subsidy from S25, similar to what happened on KIR-DUB when Ryanair took that route on after the collapse of Stobart Air...?
PSO funding would normally come in two-year cycles but the position to/from NI has been complicated by matters at Stormont (or rather, lack thereof) in recent times. The difficulty is that if easyJet wanted to operate with no subsidy, it would need to demonstrate that it could meet the PSO service criteria for the PSO to be killed off. What it couldn't do, for example, is throw in a 4 x weekly LON-LDY service which would undermine the PSO but not meet the basic service criteria.

Londonderry is only listed as a 'worldwide' destination, as is Barra for instance (and I'm not sure they'll be getting an A321 in there in the near future!).. Not sure of the technicalities but it looks like there's some kind of codeshare arrangement going on with Loganair.

If they start somewhere in central Scotland they could take Loganair to the cleaners, on price anyway.
