Gatwick-3
AI service resumption to CCU
As far as Air India is concerned, they already confirmed their selection of Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru as their three global hub airports. So, efforts to focus on building up these first to achieve critical mass and enhance network connectivity.
While Kolkata (Calcutta) is of great historical importance - after all, it's where the East India Company was based and thus the foundations of the Raj were laid, Kolkata has lost its economic importance vis-à-vis other major Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad many decades ago. It is not where the money in India is these days. In fact, if you draw a diagonal line across India, it's the large cities to the South and West of that line which have the brightest and most promising prospects, with Delhi and the National Capital Region around it being the only exception to the North of such an [imaginary] line. Kolkata by contrast is far to the North-east of such a line. In fact, in terms of economic importance, Kolkata has not only fallen behind Chennai (Madras) -another historically very important Indian city with connections to both the East India Company and the Raj, it has even been overtaken by some very large "second-tier" Indian cities, such as Kochi (Cochin) for example (which Air India already served from Gatwick b.t.w.). So, while there definitely won't be a problem for any airline wishing to start a London-Kolkata service to fill the seats as the route is currently unserved, the question is at what fares can this be done and will this be sufficient to be profitable as for the aforementioned reasons there is likely to be much less business traffic and a lot more VFR / touristic traffic compared with the other Indian cities I mentioned. Therefore, while a possibility, I would very much expect serving Kolkata direct from London to be on the backburner of the three most likely candidates to do so - Air India, BA, Virgin Atlantic.
IMO, in Air India's case, relaunching London- Hyderabad is far more likely to have priority over relaunching London-Kolkata; even relaunching London-Chennai will probably have a higher priority.
IMO, for BA, the next India move is more likely to be London (Heathrow) - Kochi.
IMO, for Virgin, it's likely to be Heathrow-Hyderabad.

So from the 01 July, we will see several airlines using the Airbus A350 into LGW.
Air China
Air Mauritius
China Southern Airlines
Ethiopian Airlines
Singapore Airlines
My question is... who will the next airline to use the Airbus A350 into LGW, could it start with a C?

Ba cancelled flights
Was informed 2 weeks ago my flight Tuesday week has been cancelled to mahon had to rebook with easyjet having looked at recent events with ba euroflyer would never use again you can not book with any confidence.
As LGW gets all the hand me downs from LHR is it down to unreliable aircraft?

Very few BA Euroflyer cancellations are due to tech aircraft. One issue is that pilot training is running at capacity and this has caused some bottlenecks. Cabin crew recruitment is no longer an issue and numbers are stable.
From my monitoring, the total number of cancellations is quite small. Obviously if it is your flight that is cancelled then it has a very negative impact. However, all airlines cancel flights daily for a variety of reasons. Both BA mainline and easyjet have similar issues regarding pilot availability at times as well as aircraft going tech etc…..

The 10 Airbus A320 G-GATH to G-GATU we're not previously with British Airways at LHR. All ten aircraft were with previous operators before being purchased and refitted by British Airways in 2015/16.
Only 13 aircraft operated by British Airways Euroflyer at LGW are "hand me downs from LHR".
Being "hand me downs from LHR" doesn't necessarily mean that these aircraft are any less reliable than their LHR counterparts.
Would you not consider the three ex BM/ B Med aircraft MEDK, MIDO and MIDS “hand me downs” or have you just accidentally overlooked these . No criticism.
Whllst not LHR hand me downs some of ex Wizz Air aircraft certainly had some issues before being adopted if I remember rightly.
As others have said advanced note and planned cancellations happen in many airlines for variety of reasons

LGW showing in the drop-down list of departure airports on Cyprus Airways site but can't see any flights available.
Are they looking to start services at some point? They have a number of A220's on order and know they've previously applied for LHR and STN slots.

The three former BM/B Med aircraft are included in the 13 aircraft that are "hand me downs from LHR".
Why would I need to discuss those particular aircrafts history as they are obviously ex LHR along with the other ten aircraft currently flown by British Airways Euroflyer from LGW.
The other aircraft in the LGW fleet are the ten A320s I listed in my earlier post. As I mentioned before they were not previously operated by British Airways but sourced from elsewhere.
British Airways Euroflyer have a fleet of 23 aircraft based at LGW 13 of which are "hand me downs from LHR". This includes the three former BM/ B Med aircraft.

Yes its very frustrating when your flight is cancelled like mine was and of cause there is very good reasons for this I would say this there are 3 more flights that are cancelled today malaga, salzburg and paphos today.
I hope ba euroflyer gets there act together cause all they are doing is forcing poeple like me to look at other airlines ie easyjet which is very airline ba euroflyer was set up to compete with.

They gotta do something to increase revenue and potentially feed over Larnaca since the normal Russians can’t travel internationally quite so easily these days. I know it’s no longer linked to S7 however their original plans were based on taking advantage of Russian trade over traditional UK business for “reasons”
Off season will interesting to see if they can somehow they gain any advantage over Easy/Ryan and Jet2 all of whom scale back indeed suspend operations at Larnaca in favour of Paphos.
Naff all’s open for tourists in Paralimni district, and many fewer villas than in the west. Nicosia can be bl**dy cold .
There is some business traffic sure , however since B much has pivoted with the single market these days.
Just being a little pedantic but the A320/A321 fleet at Gatwick is 24 at the moment not 23. Apologies.
As I tried to state earlier most of the recent cancellations are due to lack of pilot availability. BA mainline is having similar issues. Very few cancellations have been tech related.

As far as Cyprus Airways is concerned I am not sure if they will be starting services soon from Gatwick. Both BA Euroflyer and easyjet operate throughout the winter to Paphos. Both airlines will be operating daily to Larnaca this winter as BA Euroflyer is resuming services from Gatwick on November 4th. In addition BA mainline is up to 4 daily from Heathrow.

Sir Richard Branson has claimed that VS will eventually return to Gatwick. I wonder if this news comes as a surprise to VS management:

New routes to North America and beyond will be announced soon, some of which will eventually be from Gatwick. The airline withdrew from the airport during Covid but retained ownership of its take-off and landing slots, leasing them to easyJet, and Branson says it will return. “It matters — it’s where we started. I will twist arms.”
Think it inevitable that Caribbean, Orlando and perhaps Las Vegas will recamp in the not to distant future, relieving Heathrow slots for Indian and core US ( DL) flying. Through there isn’t that much growth potential within current orders to be honest
