Why are so many getting so worked up about lifting th3 100ml limit? We’ve been travelling with the restrictions for 18 years. Not having to open cabin baggage and separate electronics and liquids is the big gain.

Also most, if not all, of the non-UK airports with flights to BHX will still impose the 100ml limit so the 250ml bottle of shampoo (or whatever) will have to be ditched on return to BHX.

I think it's very bad form for a multi million pound business to blame it's customers for its operational woes. Without passengers, BHX wouldn't be in business. I'm a regular flier and know the drill, however the recent PR about liquids has been confusing to many, that's not BHX's fault. I'm flying out on Friday and will only have 100ml liquids in my bag but I bet there are many in the line who didn't get that memo!

There will always be people, who, for whatever reason are not ready for security / have the wrong things in their bag / have not taken off coat, watch etc who will slow down the lines. Instead of letting them get to that point where they are spending 5 mins sorting themselves out at the scanner, why not employ extra customer service staff to queue comb the long queues making sure people are fully ready and liquid / clothing compliant BEFORE they get to the point they're putting their bag into the grey tray and through the scanner.

I think the main issue however is not passengers,it's the fact that in the current peak summer schedule morning wave ,06.00 - 09.00 there are usually some 50 or so departures of which nearly all are on 737/Airbus aircraft, that's a huge increase in passengers transiting security than pre COVID when a lot of morning wave flights were smaller, regional aircraft, Flybe alone would have had 15 or so departures in that time on 78 seaters as opposed to 180+ seaters, plus there was no based EZY, 3 or 4 FR (now 7?) and 8 or so Jet2 (now 14?).

FIngers crossed once the new security is finally fully open we'll see an end to the queues outside but it won't be the end of queues!!

The problems are three fold I think.

First the construction work has either over run, or was extremely badly planned to not be finished by May.

Second, mixed messages from the regulators / government over scanners, liquids etc.

Third, the public. Some, perhaps many, aren't frequent flyers and to whom airports are alien environments with unfamiliars procedures. Many of the public are disorganised and don't believe rules and instructions apply to them. Look no further than supermarket checkouts and people use them every week. In a perfect world people would rock up at security with everything in order and it would work like clockwork. They don't and it doesn't and at BHX presently there seems no room for error.

In a Birmingham context is this right? The building work has covered the installation of the new scanners, but I thought the new scanners hadn't been introduced yet at BHX? If so, the 100ml rule hasn't changed at BHX and has always been in place. The change in the rules was only last weekend, and only really impacted the 6 airports that had switched to the new scanners.

Can't see how an announcement last weekend has any impact on the weeks of chaos at BHX

BHX has the new scanners and was ready to start meeting the new requirement in time for the deadline. it's the security area itself that's not finished.

With the new rules in place - i.e. implementing the greater than 100ml rule plus combined with not having to empty bags would mean that security times would drastically decrease, thus reducing the amount of space needed for queueing/preparing for screening etc. I travel through Dublin on EI (back to BHX) bi-weekly and they are fully compliant in T2 and they have practically no queueing area and don't need it given the speed at which you can get through.

With the above in mind, keeping the rule in place has a major impact on the airport, doubly impacted due to the fact that the security area itself is not yet finished. Then add in the scaremongering/social media/etc. it compounds the problem by encouraging more passengers to arrive too early for flights, increasing the demand on security when it's not expected etc.

I'm not saying it's not the airport's fault, there's so much more they could have done better (the lifts for example!) but there's far more to it than any one single factor.

• Alicante is going from 10 weekly to 12 weekly in January
• Faro is up from 2 to 3 weekly
• Cork 3 to 4 weekly
• Shannon 2 to 3 weekly

Madrid and Milan Bergamo also up from 2 to 3 per week each over winter.

Agadir and Marrakech down to 2 weekly from 4 (but Jet2 joining the Morocco party from Oct)

Porto 2 per week but think this is a usual seasonal reduction

Toulouse and Stockholm look to remain summer seasonal only plus other usuals like Pisa, Paphos etc

Lodz and Plovdiv are new routes. Santander is chopped (may come back as summer seasonal but wouldn't bet on it) as well as Bordeaux (FR base closing but could again return next summer with BHX based aircraft?)

Latest instructions from BHX management - you can have as many sub 100ml liquid containers as you like and they should not be in a plastic bag. This is going to cause chaos at non-UK airports for return flights to BHX.

Hi, can't find the 12 Alicante in the APP or online website is this yet to be loaded. My versions showing 10 but I am on Safari . That is the browser not viewing Lions. Got Cork and Shannon and had Faro at 3 already but think it was 2 when first released.

Hi Pete.I found this out yesterday on the app however i looked from 16th to 23rd and counted the number of flights and it gave me 12.

easyjet have added Rovaniemi thanks to Sean m post earlier but this indicate theirs a 4th based aircraft as there’s a slot for Wednesdays flight but not for Sunday?

Cheers will keep checking the APP but still showing 10 for me.

U2 - The schedule I posted last week was February and Sunday in December is a bit different. Faro lays over December to February and EDI based flight starts in February. I originally thought the 4th aircraft appeared to be February but in fact the whole winter schedule at present fits 3.

Below is the December schedule for Sunday. I suppose they will resist the temptation to start the EDI based earlier although Glasgow is only showing one flight late Sunday

EZY domestic BHX

City centre to city centre the train fares very well on timing compared to the flight.

Tomorrow I will leave my house near Kidderminster at 06.30, drive to Wolverhampton station, park my car, catch a train and be in Glasgow city centre at 11.15.

Compare this to leaving my house at 05.45 to drive to BHX, park, stand in a queue for ages, hopefully make 08.45 flight to Glasgow, get off and through terminal, catch bus to Glasgow city centre, everything smooth I could be in Glasgow city centre for 10.30.

No difference in journey time.

Admittedly we all know train fares can be off the scale expensive but on this occasion pretty similar to easyJet but only because I booked well in advance (and I'm travelling Standard Premium which is First Class seating just without any on board service)
