Having worked in Traffic/Despatch many moons ago and a regular SLF at BFS these days, what is the role of the Traffic Officer/Despatcher now? We used to do the load sheet on our lap in the van or jump seat. We would check bags and freight were going in the right holds for trim, we chased and harried services to ensure the aircraft departed on time, we called passengers on coaches or walked them down the steps and out to the aircraft and finally we checked heads on board with the No1, closed the doors, moved the steps and did the pushback coordination on the headset. No idea what they do now that loadsheets are transmitted to ipads and the ground staff/loaders/tuggies do it all themselves. If you had one job, it was to check heads and then see three people in wheelchairs on the tarmac. Aged rant over.

Just picked up on this. I heard the interview where MOL said that since they were refused extra frequencies/ slots for Christmas and various sporting occasions, mid terms breaks etc. He could see increased demand at BFS. It certainly seems like all the airlines in Belfast generally are on a striker footing. He's mentioned BFS ahead of Shannon, Cork and Knock, so he seems quite serious about it. Clearly, BFS is the closest airport they serve to Dublin, so it makes sense.

They operate couple of adhoc charters in the summer months,it's kind of pilgrimage flights Croatia version of Lourdes.

Operated two returns last week from Prestwick. Both in from Ljubljana (Slovenia) and out to Zadar (Croatia). Still to establish the specific reasons for the flights.
