Friends of mine want to leave it. I worked out TS people 3 years ago. Working there. NWI is a major airport against MME. NWI is nothing against NCL.

Airports have route development funds. The original business plan had an initial Route Development Fund set at £500k for the first four years, so £2m was set aside to help establish routes.

Ah yes, the origional business plan? Is that the one that was abandoned on the quiet?

By all means hold him to account, but bear in mind the public had that opportunity the other day and that this isn't suppose to be a politics 1st forum.
They now seems to be alot of sore losers on here hiding behind keyboards thinking they can spout (bordering) libel.
Bit of a leap from one post.

Why have Malaga and Tenerife not been announced yeet? Simple, no airline believes they can make money on them. Suspect a lot of Teessiders have been fooled by Tory lies once again. Hey ho.

That being said, all politicians are the same, all a bunch of crooked liars

What is the apparent obsession that Houchen has with the airport? Appreciate that one of the benefits of metro mayors is they have a budget that they can spend as they wish, but where is the benefit for your average voter in chucking money at an unprofitable airport used by a tiny percentage of the electorate when it could be spent on public transport, housing, urban regeneration etc?

The airport should be able to stand on its own two feet. Same goes for the likes of DSA and CWL.

It's given him a highly visible cause that appeals to local pride, and played a significant part in him winning three elections. Expect a similar playbook at DSA

that’s not quite correct - failing airports have route development funds. Successful airports don’t need them as airlines want to base and expand their operations there.
Subsidising routes is a road to nowhere as once the funds run out airlines simply pull out and revert to airports where routes are more profitable in their own right……

I wouldn’t say that’s correct. Even huge airports have route development funds to support new connections. And it’s not a given that carriers pull out. Plenty of connections survive. I’m not saying that would be the case here but it’s not universally negative.

It’s certainly the case that both Teesside competitors don’t pay subsidies and don’t feel they need to. At an LBA ACC their CEO confirmed how they beat a “a certain airport in the NE” who was prepared to throw money to attract them only to lose out to LBA because in the airlines view proximity to market out weighed any subsidy.

As airlines you only need to look at Ryanair to see what happens when subsidies are removed, unless the yield hold they pull out. I’d be intrigued if you can provide an example of an airline still flying an unprofitable route following the removal of a subsidy.

On a separate point in a cost of living crisis and with the current levels of taxation I don’t think it’s ethical to be splurging public funds to attract what are bucket and spade flights to an airport whose future will always be marginal if indeed it ever does make a profit……

It has been brought to my attention that the former RAF squash court building is no more. Its been semi derelict for 40 years or more. The surrounding trees were removed in early spring and the ground surveyed for pipes and cables.

I would have thought they needed planning permission to demolish any permanent structure
I have not seen any request on DBC planning portal to demolish it

I would guess it’s the comments towards the mayor.

As I’ve said multiple times, the chat has become a farce with half truths, accusations and sarcastic remarks (with regard to the mayor). If that is the reason, it’s really no surprise.
