Regrettably, this was always likely to be the case. The plain (pardon the pun) fact is that neither of the main islands has a market which is big enough to encourage an airline like EZY to start (& then retain) “sustainable” routes to Europe. The same result is inevitable with the AUR Guernsey to Paris route ; unless the initial subsidy from the States of Guernsey - which was necessary to initiate the route - is continued indefinitely. A big disappointment, but a simple fact of life, I am afraid. Even when it only operates a couple of times per week.

The article states that BA stopped the Gatwick service because of Covid, & then did not reinstate it. As far as my memory goes, it was reinstated a couple of years ago for the summer only after the States of Jersey had reached an agreement with them - possibly involving a subsidy - but stopped again after just one summer. Is this correct ?

Interesting one considering Easyjet operate it multiple times a day. When I flew on it last summer in June the flights were only 60% full then

No it is not crazy over capacity. Heathrow will have 21 flights weekly and Gatwick 19. So 3 flights a day from one and 2/3 flights a day from the other.
Jersey pre-covid was always 30 to 40 plus flights a week but all from Gatwick. Now they are split between the two.

Not sure there is 3 x a320 worth of pax wanting to fly to London at 0700 on a Tuesday morning in November.

You may find the timetable is gradually re adjusted. We shall have to wait and see.

As stated above, the extra Gatwick flights are being accommodated by a commensurate reduction in the Heathrow flights. I am concerned that this will eventually result in the termination of the Heathrow service & a return to Gatwick being the sole London destination from Jersey, as was the case in the past. If so, the resumption, & increase, of year round Gatwick flights will not be of much benefit to Jersey passengers, as most of BAW's long range & European services operate from Heathrow only. This will result in considerable inconvenience for passengers who wish to travel via LHR (for connecting services); as has already proved to be the case in my own experience & that of other LHR passengers who have had their flights from LHR cancelled.
Also, I cannot see the logic of operating an early morning service to both LHR & LGW; as this will result in 3 such services to London at that time , the other being Easyjet. I cannot see where 540 passengers can be found for these flights !
My suspicion is that this will eventually result in the LHR service being withdrawn & the slots used for more profitable routes.

I think you’re right. Probably retaining one LHR sector a day (I believe BA did a 5 year deal with Jersey government to operate to LHR).

3 first wave to London is obviously nonsense.

the week before BA operate 3 flights to LHR. from the 4th Nov it is 3 to LHR and 3 to LGW. This is a doubling of JER LON capacity during a very quiet part of the year.

Plus EasyJet 4 to LGW and 1 to LTN. Total 11 flights to London a day, circa 1800 seats.

I stand by my over capacity statement.
