DURHAM TEES VALLEY AIRPORT - 6
Can somebody clarify the statements about all the hangars being full and needing more? Looking at the residents list on the DTVM website this doesn't seem to be the case or is Hangar 1 still full of Sycamore's bits and pieces - I thought this was all cleared at the time of the lock out?
see no evil.... Speak no evil...
Movements down 3% year on year..
No work for Sycamore?
Fuel prices now increasing by 30%
Resident aircraft wrecked by wind(I know ....that's not fair, but any airport precautions in place to avoid?)
Lowest passenger figures since early 1970's
A stuttering master plan
Restricted fire cover
Restricted ATC cover at times
An owner who..let's be honest..does not have a reliable track record for airport ownership.
Sweating the 'assets' ?? More like a little perspiration ....
Sorry I must be reading a different script to others.

That's not fair either, can't blame the airport for the downturn in oil industry!
No work for Sycamore?
Three 757s worth of parts in Hangar 1, crates from floor to ceiling, they've been dealing with off-site work

Yeah I'll give you that one, but we're still not overly expensive, about mid-table I believe

Up to the owners to tie them down - in theory some or all will be repaired or replaced
Lowest passenger figures since early 1970's
Can only go one way then - surely?
A stuttering master plan
Define stuttering? It's slow, very slow even, but they're ticking all the boxes they said they would thus far
Restricted fire cover
Can increase as necessary - what's your point
Restricted ATC cover at times
Very rare!!

Debatable, mix of the industry being in a poor state, an anti-aviation government and a little bad luck too. The will and good intent is there - regardless of what anyone says

Hmmm...I would say Peel are doing their best with what's available to them

You are - most people may have the same copy as you, but it's definitely the wrong script - and that ain't my optimism

No. It only became a thriving airport afterwards when they built it up, attracting the various locos. Okay it was all lost, but see my post above as to the reasons for that.

Revised airshow at Durham Tees Valley Airport this May will be 'bigger and better' than originally planned (From The Northern Echo)
Today's press. Still very sceptical, but if nothing else he can talk the talk.

SWBKCB - British Aerospace made Liverpool what they are today, Peel inherited an already thriving airport
BAe did nothing at LPL and retreated back to their core business, building aeroplanes, as fast as they could. Peel bought it and has invested millions in it, albeit with EU help in the beginning and is still investing after the Canadians who they sold part to cocked it up. I think they made a profit from it though but that is their business model.
Given a chance when north east prosperity returns in earnest they will be able to put money where their mouth is as they have deep pockets.

My apologies I thought it was BAe who brought easyJet in and built up the pax numbers - my mistake!
As far as Peel's deep pockets go (and again I could be wrong here), are they not just asset rich as opposed to cash rich?

I'm no expert (where is our resident Peel watcher?), but DTVA seems to be well down the pecking order when it comes to splashing the cash.

Peel watcher
Re SWB- "I'm no expert (where is our resident Peel watcher?), but DTVA seems to be well down the pecking order when it comes to splashing the cash."
Answer: Have been watching over a quiet DTV fence line, and believe Peel are only in it for the land, so expect more houses in the future.
Peel are a big company with time on their hands. Well known in the funny handshake world.
The large grants always appear to pay for the infrastructure, (One NE grants) such as drains and road building which are where they now want to build houses on the north side. Funny old world

Who's spending all the money on hangar one then?? New doors so far and possibly a new roof. They are also going to do the same work on hangar two.

KLM E175
I've read some comments that suggested MME could be an early candidate to see the E175. Well, the summer route schedule has been announced and it looks like we remain a F70 operation throughout. No sign of the baby Embraer just yet....
I suspect they will start turning up at random, becoming more frequent as the F70s are retired, which according to the KLM engineers at DTVA will be at an accelerated rate.
Yes, all will be gone by 2018 now. Problem is with random show ups is that there is often a crew change at Teesside; whilst the cabin crew will work on both aircraft I suspect the pilots will only be certified on one. That won't stop the odd one showing up here and there though.
Will miss those little Fokkers. Great little planes to ride in: probably done over a 100 F70 flights from Teesside over the years and they've rarely let me down....

Housing development in Middleton St George becoming a heated topic - could have an impact on the Masterplan?
