highwideandugly, what a stupid statement, of course they would be willing to support airlines, just any deal needs to work for both parties, not a case of the airline shafting the airport like a certain Irishman is renowned for.

DTVAirport, are you serious??
HOME - savair
Can you get sucked in any further? Id be interested to know what their 'suitable qualifications' are. Do they have a multi millionaire backer who is looking to throw all their money away?

pug - read my post, specifically the last line, I'm not suckered in to anything and I'd be very surprised to see it happen.
I was talking to the Ops Director of the potential start-up about an unrelated matter and the subject of SavAir came up. The MD has done business management and at least two aviation-related courses during his time at College.
All I'm doing is elaborating on the topic that EK77WNCL brought up.

Why post the rest then? I have two aeronautical related degree qualifications, plus over four years experience working in airlines and aviation business (largely in costing, revenue and ops admin environments) maybe I should start an airline? Or perhaps if these guys were to take a similar route, they may find that the incumbent operators don't just pay for fuel and wages...
I would hope that the (very qualified) youngish chap in charge of aviation development at DSA and MME would sniff them out from a mile away..

Remember this guy? Joseph Hayat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He was the person that Peel and DSA thought would bring in the bacon with HiAir, now we are looking at savair but so far no big press release from Peel this time.

new airline
Dtv. Calm down. But where is the evidence? The reputation has been made...it's not the most welcome of UK airports and you reap what you sew.a schoolboy project will never help us...it costs millions to get an airline up and running. The obstacles will be too great methinks.. Housing will mean night curfews or should do..who in their right mind would buy houses hundreds of yards dos from an operational runway??
You are calling Ryanair. But what about Thomsonb..no mugs..Balkan a great supporter. Transun holidays the same? Flight inspectorate..I could go on.
I would love to have your optimism but just can't see it.....yet!!

Given that I made it clear I am in agreement with you all regarding SavAir, I can't help but feel you're just bashing me for no other reason than me being an optimist?

DTVAirport
DTVA a couple of questions, I have to presume that this 16 year old is one of your "acquaintances" ? else how else would you be entering into a dialogue in which the "initial" subject matter was not about Savair...
Perhaps more relevant , then did you not bother checking if such a company as Savair (or anything remotely near) actually exists ? It actually takes 2 minutes & if so then you would realise that there is no such such company in existence & thus you weren't actually talking to any sort of director !....
This in itself would have negated the absolute bcks that other posters have felt it necessary to comment upon.
All that you have actually done is to undermine any representations that you have eluded to in the past as to your "informed" knowledge as to goings on at DTVA, when in reality you know perhaps less than most?

I have no intention of discussing SavAir any further.
Skyman, been looking back through some of your posts on this thread, nearly all attacks, either against the airport or against me, usually for no real reason, are you afraid that one day I might just be proved right?

Savair
What a shame personal attacks littler the forum.
There is no doubt DTVAirport is an optimistic chap with a more positive outlook on the airport than most. But even he says he doesn't give this outfit much of a chance. So, why does everyone have an issue?
As for my view, I don't see this as anything other than a well intended pipe dream.
In the meantime, we watch and wait for some positives from the master plan to bear fruit......

the truth is out there...somewhere
Well said p330,it's so sad non of us have anything positive to say and hence the bickering, which I suppose we are all guilty of at times.
Oh for some transparency or action from our glorious owners!!!

Peel commitment or maybe not?
Just a thought..please don't shoot me down.
Mentioned in previous posts about Peel s. commitment to DTV
After watching tonight's kLM go round the hold on fr24. For over an hour..then divert to Leeds ...if they really want to "protect" the service and continue to give business continuity,Surely the time is right to invest( a little) and get a cat2/3 ILS IN.
Yes I know t will cost but surely there is no better way to show your desire to make DTV the jewel in your crown? or is that me being romantic(and stupid!!!??)

I don't suppose it would make a difference given that AFAIK KLM F70's are not CAT III capable..

How much does it cost to install a Cat 2/3 ILS for each runway?
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe KLM are replacing the F 70's with ERJ-190
aircraft, they are equipped for Cat 2/3 landings.

In short, millions!
It's not just a CATIII ILS (Around £400k) you're looking at but the lighting too. Extra circuits for TDZ, Supplementary lights, upgraded Approach, stop bars, Centreline lights and Runway Edge if you've not already got them, possibly a new AGL controller. Plus signage for CATIII Holds, IRVR, training of staff etc.
If it was cheap, every airport would be CAT III.
Does that answer your question?

The ILS at Sheffield was pulled because it was a white elephant at an already closed airport.
To maintain an ILS, even to CAT I, you need engineers to check it every months (field pattern check and monitor checks every three months) and for it to be flight checked by a CAA approved organisation every 6 months (Around 10k per visit!).
I think the Sheffield ILS went to Doncaster Sheffield Airport for their other end, I'm not sure, or Doncaster may have put CAT III on one end and moved their existing CAT I to the other end.
Sheffield airport was a basket case but that's another argument.
