Times comment on Airline takeovers

Times business section commented on Friday 24th Feb that with
: fuel prices continuing to rise
: soft demand for flights going forward
: current recessionary climate

that there are more than a few of the smaller airlines, without substantial reserves, who have been approaching some of the more financially resiliant players regarding takeovers etc.

Course newspapers never refused print but perhaps a new wave of consolidation is in the offing.Particularly as airline bosses see Spanair / Malev and others giving up the ghost this year so far.

Not seeing any positive news on this..

No new reporting here. This is just a statement of fact.

There is a LOT more consolidation to come and it will mainly come from closures. In this climate, there is no point in buying a failing competitor. Much better business sense to wait for it to close and the zip in to get the routes, crew, airframes. A clear case in point being Malev.

Sorry but there is no good news in Western economies in the forseeable future.
