ORD Closed?

Getting reports that ORD tower has been evacuated and flights divereted due to tornados Any updates? Must be very bad for them to leave the tower.

ORD was closed due to tornado warnings/sever weather, no reports of any tornados touching down. Apparently 3 rounds of storms, with storm tops as high as 60,000 ft. Flight tracking currently showing a steady stream on inbound/out bound traffic

The first wave went through about 3:00pm, and was truly ugly, gusts to 50kts., with TRACON (C90) bailing out for awhile.

Second wave came through about 3 hours later, but didn't seem quite as bad as far as winds.

ORD

I can vouch for the weather.

At approx 3pm the largest black cloud sped down one of the runways faster than anything I have ever seen.

A MD83 took off into it, after that nothing moved for 1 hour.

Then, at approx 5.50pm we were taxying to the hold for 27r when another wave came in. We never moved for over 2.5 hours.

They closed the ramp behind us as the taxiways were clogged.

Every time it seemd to get better, another wave would come in. It certainily made an impressive sight to watch.

Well done to all of the pilots. We eventually got airborne at approx 8.50pm and it was the strangest departure I have encountered.
