Wow. Surely someone is responsible for the clearing of the snow and ice or was there not enough time or equipment? I understand that the guy who was injured worked there but there was nothing in the news. What would have happened if it had been a passenger?

I'm led to believe the loaders are responsible for clearing the apron but they're, shall we say, not overly enthusiastic about the task
Can anyone shed any light on why the EZY Liverpool was cancelled again? A friend had to get the boat back today after being told that "there were adverse weather conditions" at EGNS but everyone else was operating, even FlyMaybe

I was at the airport at 06.30 on the 17th. About an inch of fresh snow, but no more coming down. I was disappointed that there seemed to be no efforts to clear anything, and got the impression that it was easier just to cancel everything until 10 a.m.
I finally got home over 10 hours later, via the good old Steam Packet and the dodgy British railways! I decided not to risk waiting at the airport for replacement flights as the forecast was for more snow.

LPL-IOM-LPL currently estimated 2 hours delay.
EDIT: Pax told that the delay was due to crew not being able to get to Liverpool first thing in the morning and they had to bring in replacement crew from Manchester.

Have to say that I was really impressed at the effort yesterday by all airlines (save U2), their staff and those of the to complete the whole flying programme. Well done all!
Managed to do the day return trip to London which I was dreading; visions of the 0215 overnight sailing from Heysham haunted me for most of the day.

Heard that plus heard also the LPL will be dropped as they have something 'more productive' for the aircraft to do. You tend to hear lots of such rumours, some even started by people looking to stir the brown stuff. Perish the thought!.

A single daily LGW would do much better than a single LPL. LGW is not stuffed full of DHSS free seats and the jet would have chance to show its benefits over a turboprop on the longer sector. Makes sense.

EZY don't do the NHS stuff, their lunchtime rotation doesn't fit with the out and back routine of patients going for consultations. Pretty sure BE have the contract anyway.
Remember, the LPL service is only there to fill a gap in the EZY LPL programme and keep movements/pax numbers above a pricing threshold agreed with LJLA.
They could try LGW of course, but they'd have a fight on their hands to make it work. They'd also have to go against the wishes of she who must be obeyed!. Dangerous stuff.

The news came from who.....?
"I heard rumours from an EZY crew"
and as we all know too well, the crews are the LAST to know of any company changes so I'd take this with a massive pinch of salt!

maybe so clansman but LPL IOM must be losing Easy a shed load of money. Loads are cra$ and fares are well below cost. They would do much better on lGW no denying that.
Why are you so sure that they would 'do much better on LGW'?
The total London market is only c16k pax per month, and much of that is business or connecting traffic which tends to be focused at the start and end of the day. LPL/MAN/BLK (which are effectively one market) combined are around 25k, plus there is scope to pinch pax from the Steam Packet, so market is much more elastic overall, yet EZY have struggled to gain the share they need. They would need to gain a much bigger share of the available London cake to do better in terms of loads and yields.
I'm not saying they wouldn't get a few takers for middle of the day LGW-IOM-LGW rotation, but it's hard to see how they'd ultimately do materially better than on LPL.
Personally, I rather see RE disappear from their unreliable, and some what orphaned, LCY shambles, the traffic go back to LGW and give BE the incentive to put a E175 on there, once they come on stream later this year.

shouldn`t blame the loaders for every cock up at the airport.apeares to me that they seem to be an easy target.
they can only do what they are told to do by the powers that be so hey.... give the poor sods a break

molski the loaders are certainly a slow moving target so I guess that does make them an easy one!!
What is really needed is a Snow Plan by the airport management. MAN, LPL, LBA etc all have one. While IOM is not the same size it is strategically very important for the Isle of Man community so any disruption is felt just as much.
It was a fair amount of snow compared to recent years but compared to other UK airfields wasn't a great amount at all.
