FLYBE on IOM
Only change will be BRS on winter over winter basis. Apparently pax never materialised. Flybe very committed to IOM, to LGW, LTN, MAN and LPL, as well as other seasonal routes. EZY losing thier shirt on LPL. Flybe are used to fighting and winning against EZY on Domestics and will do so here.
IOM-BRS was being offered several times a week through to March, but now appears to be pulled. No big surprise really as the numbers suggest it's been operating at around 40-45% LF through the summer.

Pity it's gone though. Mrs HaC was a regular, and will now be forced back on to the train via London.
More the pity that the route received little promotion from the IoM end other than an offer of seats. As a gateway to the south west there should have been more effort from their tourist industry to offer packages. And unfortunately for traffic coming the other way our lot seem to only target the major cities.

I have to agree HaC - the Southwest is becoming ever more popular with inbound tourism from both the UK and Europe. I do think that it would have worked well both ways had it have been advertised sufficiently but apart from on Bristol's website I have never seen it advertised down here. It is a shame Marketing do not focus their efforts on advertising Flybe routes anymore, just more anciliary revenue.

Why is Mrs HaC driving to LGW with no BRS. Shurely GLO is much closer - just an hour up the M5 and parking out the front saving another half hour compared to Long Term at LGW?

She's flying fm IOM to LGW, into town then train from Paddington. Believe me it's easier than flying to MAN or even BHX trainwise. Of course there might be a bit of retail therapy in London en route.
GLO is not an option. She is not the world's greatest flyer, and something with less than 20 seats simply terrifies her. And, although I accept that I am probably being overly conservative, I won't fly on aircraft that small either. Nothing wrong with M2. Just personal preference.

Mr H a C you'll understand that as someone who's worked on J31s and 41s I'd rather be on a 19 or 29 seater than a Q400 any day. Q200s and Q300s are good but the Q400 is a stretch too far. With its propensity to yaw it needs to be firmly planted on the ground making soft landings near impossible above 10 knots xwind. ATR72 handles much better.

I have had a couple of smooth landings on the Q400, in fact smoother than many and I have flown about a bit. Granted, these were in near perfect weather! But I know where JSR is coming from, they do have to be put down with a bit of a bump sometimes.

Running out of bits to keep the tired 42s going? Good to see a nice aircraft on LCY although the smaller capacity wont help stop the route decline thats been happening.

Well you can have the Dornier 328 into lcy as of Friday
CB's contract with WX to operate EDI and DND to LCY ends 31st December. Maybe CB could take over the route. I am sure there D328's are in a better condition inside than RE's AT4's and older AT7's
National Rail - Southend Airport Rail Station
edit:
station at the airport opens dec 2010, so if the rumour of IOM-LCY is true then you can plan ahead and be aware that the airport has direct access to the rail network
