ISLE OF MAN
August PAX numbers
August pax figures released, in double quick time, to reveal a tiny increase over 2009 of 45. At least it's a move in the right direction, at last.
Positive signs as August Airport passengers top 2009 levels - Isle of Man Airport Website
EZY up to 92 pax per flight, which is much better than where they were in previous months, but a good bit short of their stated objective of 70k pax per annum.
London market still pretty buoyant, but there's a consistent shift away from LCY to LGW and LTN, which probably reflects the use of the '42 by RE, with fewer cheaper seats out there.
Some good news stories among the small routes, but others seem to be under pressure.
Seems that BE and Freedom Travel have done well with the direct Majorca flights - hopefully they'll be back next year.

yessir, pax numbers up a smidgin thanks to charter pax being included this time. Capacity up massively, misery index for airlines therefore up as load factors are well down. Horrible month and now I see Manxy 2 are cutting BFS altogether and halving LBA this winter. Million dollar question is what will BE be cutting?
I think charter pax have always been included in the overall totals, so they are comparing like with like.
Agree that winter will be difficult, and Manx2 seem to have already adjusted their capacity.
BE do seem to have too many seats in some markets right now, but unless they pull an aircraft altogether, it's difficult to see what they can do that doesn't exchanging half full flights for down time. Probably waiting to see how the RE situation pans out too.

It is good to see an increase, albeit small, in the August passenger figures. However, there is still a long way to go as the 2010 numbers are still some 3,600 less than 2008 and 10,300 less than 2005. Let us hope that real growth will return and can be maintained.

Yessir a lot of horse on this thread . What u can't argue with is that the Irish pso s are a goner next year so arann/aer fungus regional or whoever they are then will have some difficult questions for the old 42 fleet

And I guess reliability continues to be an issue - today's 0730 delayed to 1025, presumably for an aircraft swap with the inbound DUB at 1000. If the business folk can't rely on the morning outbound, they will use BE for travel, and especially for a day trips.
Shame really. The -72s seemed more reliable, and were much more comfortable. And I'd prefer LCY over LGW any day.
I wonder what incentive RE got from Ronaldsway to operate the -72., and whether removal of that incentive after a year triggered to demise of the -72s. I know one of the reasons was the start of the EI Regional operation, but the -42s appeared well before the examiner-ship process started, with the occasional Air Contractors -72 from time to time.

Seeing that you didn't have a clue....would it not be right that you remove your post, rather than creating false impressions. Arann's reliabilty on this route is actually very good when you remove wx issues. Since when did Contractors fly pax on ATRs? Oh, silly me you got that one wrong as well, according to the register they are operated by Aer Arann! (perhaps you meant leased)

Please point me to a source showing RE's IOM-LCY reliability is, as you say, very good. Local experience after the introduction of the -42s suggests otherwise.
I'm not sure what you are saying about Air Contractors. I've flown on an older -72 which other posters have identified as their aircraft, and yes of course the flights were operated and crewed by Aer Arann. My reference to AC was to distinguish the aircraft from the newer -72s which came when the route opened, and left after a year.

I see today that Flybe are advertising in local papers up to 3 flights a day to London, God is Gatwick and Luton being cut back that much? And the price isn't what it used to be

Don't forget the prices will change due to the new APD rates coming in, not the airline's fault. The so called green taxes nothing of the sort as the Q400 is so damn economical and green compared to other aircraft out there.
