move the whole lot to Jurby, it should have been done donkeys years ago.
I've been in the hold over the Rock looking down at Ronaldsway in fog whilst watching the rest of the Rock in beaming sunshine.
40 odd million could have been used wisely but oh no, not when an Island is run by a load of uneducated monkeys at the wedding cake.
Penny wise, pound foolish comes to mind

£1Bn ?
What ? That almost matches the bar takings for a busy saturday. More likely could buy the whole island for that amount. Jurbey sounds (looks & smells) ideal for that: flat and clear and Ramsey could do with a boost. What a pity, but guess the politics wanted to keep the cultural centre of gravity in the south.

Nope no A380 but 3 flypasts by the Red Arrows in 2 days
Jurby - guess it all hinges on access. Airport to commercial centre at present = 15 mins ish as opposed to the minimum 30 if Jurby were the gateway.
And imaginr the fun TT & MGP week of everyone having to get through Ramsey when the roads are closed

£1 BN, a little steep even for the IOM government although it always seems to be impressed by big numbers; it's also very gullible. For that price you could tunnel a motorway straight under the hills to Douglas; metropolis to Jurby - 15 mins.
you put the rumour in the aer arran thread earlier.....

maybe you could tell us more yourself ?
no one else seems to be aware of these changes...

It wasn't fog, simply overcast at 400' which is lower than the new minima they just introduced.
Why new minima, the public should be asking?
"An important safety measure required as part of essential and unavoidable work on the beginning of runway 26."
My italics 'cos I thouight I'd make a stab at the wording of the inevitably spun press release....

Horrendous you def need to take off your BE glasses and admit that for once the smaller guys got an advantage.
L410s and do228s are much slower than your q400s so can operate to lower minima BECAUSE THEY ARE SLOWER AND NEED LESS RUNWAY than a q400 at full tilt So the minima reductions are not the same for all aircraft - it depends on operating type. You dont need xray glasses just a slower & lower approach

Gentlemen please! - the reason for today's go arounds was the low cloud; often overcast at 400ft and below.
And as for any operational advantage, the baseline OCA for all a/c categories for a localiser DME, the best available onto 26 at the moment, is 410ft
The fact that the smaller M2s could level off and fly at Minimum descent altitude to MAPt , rather than go around from a CDA at a decision altitude could possibly have tipped the balance.
The added complication was that met visibility was often down as low as 2000making a visual sighting of runway only lighting difficult especially when a decision height was the norm for most.
Oh and jsut to clear up HAC, these are no longer NEW minima but the same old ones back again with the FAF 0.1 mile closer in & the mile advisory heights adjusted accordingly, Cheers Horry
