Thanks Haven't a Clue - as I suspected its not going to be easy! I've looked at Dublin too and come to the same conclusion. I'd end up overnighting in Dublin to catch onward flights.
What we need is a regular off island flight that bypasses the UK. IOM to Schipol would provide a good starting point for most of europe and beyond.

I read in this week's 'Examiner' that our esteemed government will be making robust (I think that was the word used) representations to the UK tax authority to exempt Isle of Man residents from this latest tax-grab wheeze. I'm sure the Channel Island authorities will be equally as 'robust'.

I wish the IOM Gov. luck! It is interesting to note that the UK HMRC briefing on how the new rules would apply uses an example of an IOM resident travelling to the UK on business trips!

IF the new 90 day rule becomes law, we shall be deemed “resident” for taxation purposes if we spend more than the said 90 days. We need days of arrival and departure in UK to remain excluded as is the case now. I pay income tax on my worldwide income to the government of the community where I live, where my family live, where my children are educated, where my elderly relatives receive hospital treatment etc. (IOM) If these new rules come into force, my local community will lose out. That’s not what I call “paying a fairer share!” If this affects you, please take a look here:

Does anyone know if you have to go landside with VLM at LCY if you are through ticketed to europe?
On a recent trip to Brussels I found that IOM check in will only give you a boarding card to LCY. At LCY you have to collect your onward boarding card from the VLM check in desk in the terminal.

One option to stay airside with checked baggage might be to use BA Loganair of the rock via EDI or GLA then onwards to LHR or LGW. I think you can check your baggage through but perhaps you end up landside at GLA or EDI without the use of a transfer route?

I don't think either GLA or EDI have a transfer route so you have to go landside and back again. Still quite a good way to get to LHR though.
I cannot see how they will know how many days you are in the UK anyway unless you are connecting to/from international flights.
Perhaps though this will make it an IOM to AMS/CDG/FRA service economic

I travelled IOM-EDI-LHR last month and I'm doing the same next.
There is no connecting flight route at EDI so you have to go landside and pass through security again. No idea about GLA.
It is a very civilised way to get to LHR compared with bus to/from LGW or LTN, or tube from LCY, with free bar service on both legs and well priced if you book ahead.

On a Fri Manx2 have changed the GLO schedule to go IOM/GLO/JER so therefore they cannot do a double rotation on Fri pm to GLO. They realise that the removal of the IOM/BRS service by Eastern gives them some opportunities on some peak days to encourage the GLO service......

All passengers on IOM flights are photographed on entry to and exit from the UK. "Hidden" cameras are in operation. That's why until recently IOM passengers were bused to gate 100 in Manchester as it has the recording facilities and a convoluted walk-way to ensure everyones image is recorded.
I once asked at a BAA airport why the delay in boarding the IOM flight and was told that the only gate with the recording facility was in use for another flight, so we would have to wait until it was free.
If you go landside and use an ATM, pay for something with a card or use your phone, the revenue can prove you were in the UK from bank statements or telephone records.

Instead of trying to find devious ways we may not get caught in the UK, or try airports that bypass the UK etc, why not spend a little time and energy writing to the UK government BEFORE the consultation period ends and get these stupid, ill thought out rule changes ammended. Allan Bell and his department are doing what they can, but you would be suprised how minds can be encouraged to change with enough support. Then we will be able to visit the adjacent isle as we do now. See my previous post (post 598) for full details. Come on, get pen to paper asap!

Eastern: having said that the BRS service was merely suspended until the Spring schedule - it now looks as if it will not return. My mother has been told that there is no service for the two trips she wants in April and September.
Was there any announcement or is it the usual corporate - No news means it's gone and we never announce bad news. ??

biggest waste of £40m youl ever see. Much better to save the money worth £5m a year and reduce pax taxes.
ATRs dont need it 146s dont need it, Dash8s dont need it, Do328s dont need it, J41s don't need it, SAAB 340s dont need it and those let410s can get airborne in the Airport Directors back garden.
Havent seen too many 747s wanting to get into Ronaldsway.Anyone wanting to bring in a jet, A318 will do nicely. Its all about egos.
