Guernsey and Jersey
Well we now know what BlueIslands plan with the Guernsey and Jersey route. According to their website from the 3rd of June the service linking the three Islands will go double daily Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the once daily flight remaining Mon, Wed and Fri. The times for the extra Tue and Thur rotations are: dept GCI 12:30, arrive JER 12:50, dept JER 13:05, arrive IOM 14:50, Dept IOM 15:20, arrive JER 17:10, dept JER 17:25 arrive GCI 17:45. Things definietly looking up for the service although IOM pax can't do a day trip as they arrive about 20 mins before the return service departs.

IOM Jer timings
Don't know which idiot came up with those extra flight schedules. They've picked the wrong days at the wrong times but otherwisw quite brilliant. It's clear that post BACon and the LGW debacle they need a twice daily that gives you a day return option. If no ones told them, busy day in IOM is Friday, dead day Tuesday!

Well I guess that 'idiot' now has a years worth of historical data to show which days work out best.
As for the Friday rush , it is only busy leaving the northern rock to escape to the sun for the weekend so a morning service wouldn't be much use and the fleet is already committed to the PM! No Island businessman in their right mind travel on a friday and risks being stuck away from home in fog! That sort of foolishness ends up in divorce.
IOM pax will never manage a decent day trip as it is as a good as a 2 hour flight with J32 so could never work with a Channel Island based aircraft. Only way it could be done is a Manx based aircraft. Anyway, Businessman on the rock value the night away!

We used to do an IOM-JER-IOM daystop (arriving in JER about 11am and leaving at 4pm) trip in the J41 with Manx in 2000, I seem to remember it only lasted one season as the loads weren't too great.
Was a good day out for the crew though!.

Euromanx - my problems
Travelled to the "Rock" on Monday and back to Belfast City on Friday last (22/06/07).
I had in tow, 19 X 11 year olds and another teacher.
Delayed two hours on the Monday and one hour forty minutes on the return.
On both occasions the same "tech" excuse was given and we had to wait until the London City rotation was completed.
The second half of the party travelled on the same days but on the afternoon flights. No problems - all on time.
What gives? Can Euromanx not get out of their beds in the morning or is the "tech" excuse for real and not just to avoid feeding the pax?
p.s. I really, really wish I could get the whole party, usually 42-45 pax on the one plane. Have they nothing bigger? Manx Airlines used to manage it for years!

I see the regional BBC web page announces the Manx2 service to 'Gloucester 5' with "The route will be operated by fast pressurised Beech 1900D aircraft with 19 seats." and a pictuer of a Let 410. I'm not a spotter but I would have thought the airline and the airport could have ensured they got that correct.
Now, I know that it matters not a tuppeny happeny to the pax what photograph is used on the publicity but it strikes me as being silly. Yes, yes, it's a quiet news day on the IOM and don't worry, I'm off in the morning ...

Jetfour,
Give flybe a chance to settle down over winter and once that's done, you might find that there will be a viable option for charter work from the Island again.
Manx had three 68 seater ATPs sat about. Often there was spare capacity during the middle of the day, so additional charters would be available for that sort of load.
Euromanx uses their ATR on the Liverpool route with no real spare availability, the two dashes are 35ish and 50 seaters. The 50 seater would have accomodated you on a quiet day, but that's all they have.
Initially FlyBE's two 78 seat Dash 8 Q400s will be fully utilised. We've been working on them for a third to have a go on the Liverpool route as well, but that will have to wait until the majority of the fleet (60 of the flippin' things) is in service.

Luton route returns in October
IOM this is from the web site. http://www.iom-airport.com/news/press.xml and look at the top item in Latest News Releases. Looks like a Q400.
Flybe will initially operate a 4 times weekly schedule to Luton from the Island with fares starting from £34.99 one way including taxes and charges. The first flight will depart on 28 October and seats go on sale from today, 3 July 2007. Both the Isle of Man Airport and Flybe are confident that the popularity of this important route will quickly be revived and that the service will go from strength to strength.
[edit]
... hoped that the frequency would be increased to a daily operation by spring 2008.
[edit]
The new Flybe Luton schedule for the winter will mean that the service will depart from the Isle of Man at 13:00 with a flight time of just over one hour. The return flight will leave Luton at 14:30, arriving in the Isle of Man at 15:35.
I am very pleased about this. My trip yesterday back through LGW was tedious. The South Terminal Pier with Gates 1~10 is pitiful and unpleasant. The sign posting in the main terminal is poor and I could go on. I shall be very glad to be shot of the place.

A weekly (Saturdays) service to Geneva too. Great news for the skiers amongst us.
The LTN seems to be in addition to the LGW services but a replacement for the lunchtime MAN service.
Return fares on the LTN for less than £70 on sale at the moment

I'm with PAXboy, LGW is pants, have tried IOM-BHX as well with the bus to LTN. Should put a bit of pressure on loads from BHX though with Manx2 going to GLO as well. I would be nice it it did go daily or even proper double daily aka BACon & AerArann as we used to have.

Not sure about LTN, at only 4 times a week its seems like a bit of a fop to keep the airport happy (they have been begging for someone to go back on the route). Flybe will have to be careful they don't start competing with themselves and displacing traffic from Gatwick. I wonder what Euromanx make of the move.

- Flybe website does not give seating numbers for their Q400
- Bombardier website states the Q400 has 68-78 seats (say 73)
- 60,000 / 73 = 821.9 (say 821)
- 821 / 365 = 2.25
- Therefore, a potential for two rotations a day and one per day looks like a good idea

Interestingly, the same website also states that people who contacted the airport by letter, email, telephone etc, in connection with the restoration of the north London link, over 75% voted for LTN as opposed to STN.

Its a numbers game!
Em...60,000 passeners per year that would be 30,000 each way.
Flybe have announced 4 returns per week which with 78 seats per Q400 rotation is 624 seats per week - 32448 per year.
If they operated 1 rotation per day 7 days per week then the capacity would be 56,784 per year. That would just about cover the Airports figures.

Thanks IS, good to see that someone else has too much time on their hands and the fact that I forgot about round trips in the maths would not be a surprise to my high school maths teacher. That is, assuming she is still alive and I did not send her to an early grave.
